• Children’s literature is extremely valuable in both the school
setting and at home.
• Exposing children to quality literature can contribute to the
creation of responsible, successful, and caring individuals.
• Literature for children leads to personal fulfillment and academic
gains.

1. Strengthening a bond between the child and


adult reader. Parents can read to their
children whenever they are free or during
bed time. This will inevitably create a parent-
child bond within themselves, thus enhancing
their relationship.

2. Experiencing the pleasure of escaping into a fantasy


world or an exciting adventure – ENJOYMENT.

3. Developing a favorable attitude toward books as an enrichment


to their lives. Children who read regularly from a variety of
children’s books soon develop their favorable attitude towards
reading for it provides hope and inspiration.

4. Stimulating cognitive development. Children will have better


understanding in scenario and situation. They are able to
understand the consequences of wrongdoings and choices.
They will also learn things from another facet.

5. Stimulating imagination and creativity. Children who read


stories will have a better imagination than those who do not.
With imagination, they become better writer or thinker with
vast creativity.

6. Developing empathy with other people’s feelings and


problems. Walking in someone else's shoes often helps children
develop a sense of social justice and a greater capacity to
empathize with others.

7. Providing knowledge and insights. Good books offer both information


and wisdom. Information books provide factual knowledge. Realistic
fiction, fantasy and poetry offer insights into life. Historical fiction and
biography offer both information and wisdom.

8. Widening horizons as they vicariously learn about the world. The


more children know about their world, the more they more discover
about themselves – who they are, what they value, and what they
stand for.

9. Understanding the heritage of their own and other cultures.


The more children know about their world, the more they more

10. Stimulating aesthetic development through illustrations.

1. Developing language skills. Through reading, children’s


vocabulary, grammar, and language usage are developed.

2. Developing reading and writing skills. It develops children’s


analysis of the text, basis for personal writing and reading
strategies.
