Bert’s Birthday

It’s a birthday party! Who are there at the party? There are three friends in the party. The three
friends are Fishy, the blue fish; Mona, the yellow monkey, and… who is the third friend?

The new friend’s name is Bert. Hello Bert! Bert is not a fish. He is not a monkey. He is a dog. Bert is
not blue. He is not yellow. He is brown. He is a brown dog.

“Hello, Bert! How are you? It is your birthday today, right? How old are you?” asked Fishy.

“Yes, it is my birthday! It is the 4 th of September. It is my birthday and I am 8 years old,” replied Bert.
“When is your birthday?”

Fishy answers, “My birthday is on the 5th of August. I am 4 years old.”

Mona also responds. “My birthday is on the 6 th of October. I am 10 years old. I am very big!”

Fishy and Mona sing “Happy Birthday” for Bert.

“Thank you!” exclaimed Bert, “I am very happy!”

Fishy says, “My mother is here, Bert. Bye! I loved your party, thank you! Happy birthday!”

Bert responds, “Thank you. Bye, Fishy!”

These are Bert’s parents. Bert says, “Hello Mom! Hello Dad! Mona, this is my father. His name is
Miguel. He is tall and kind.”

Bert’s father says, “Hello, Mona!”

Mona responds, “Hello! It’s nice to meet you. My father is not tall. My father is short. And he is also
kind.”

Bert introduces his mother. “Mona, she is my mother. Her name is Alicia. She is also tall and kind.”
Mona responds, “Hello! It’s nice to meet you. My mother is not tall. She is short. And she is also
kind.”

Bert describes his family. “This is my family, Mona. Mom, dad, and me. We are three dogs in my
family. My family is small.”

Look! Bert’s father has a gift for him. What is it? And the mother has a gift for him too. Two gifts!

Bert asks, “Dad, what is that?”

“It’s a gift for your birthday, Bert,” responds his father.

Mona exclaims, “Open the gift, Bert! What is it?”

Bert opens his gift and says, “Mona, look! Yay! My gift is a black cap! I love the colour black! And I
love my gift! Thank you, Dad! I love you!”

His father responds, “You’re welcome, Bert. Happy birthday. I love you.”

Bert asks his mother, “Mom, what is that?”

“It is a gift for your birthday, Bert,” answers his mother.

Mona exclaims, “Open the gift, Bert! What is it?”

Bert opens his mother’s gift and says, “Mona, look! Yay! My gift is a black collar. I love the colour
black! And I love my gift! Thank you, Mom! I love you!”

His mother responds, “You’re welcome, Bert. Happy birthday. I love you.”

What lovely gifts! Bert has a new black cap and a new black collar. What a wonderful party! Happy
birthday, Bert! Bye!
