Research Q4 pt-1

The effect of symmetry wings on paper airplane flight

QUESTION:

Which of the two, with asymmetrical wings or only symmetrical wings, can the paper

plane fly longer?

HYPOTHESIS:

If the paper airplane is symmetrical, then it will fly longer and farther.

MATERIALS:

2 pieces short bond paper

1 Tape measure

1 Ruler

1 timer(mobile timer)

PROCEDURE:

1. Construct a paper airplane with symmetrical wings.

2. Find a free space where you can fly your plane.

3. Set timer to keep track of how much time the jet spent in the air.

4. Determine the airplane's travel distance.

5. Do same procedure creating asymmetrical wings

DATA:

LEVELS OF THE TIME ALOFT/s DISTANCE/m

IV:

SYMMETRICAL 5/sec. 6/sec. 5.5/sec. 17.018/ 16.764/ 16.891/

CONCLUSION:

The data shows the comparison of paper planes with symmetrical wings design

between asymmetrical wing design. It is shown that the paper plane with symmetrical

wings design works better because both edges of the wings are equally folded and that

keeps the paper plane flight go farther and higher.

This study is a very challenging and very economical way to let the student understand

how science is connected to human invention.
