1. WHAT IS THE CRUCIAL ROLE OF CORRECTION AS A COMPONENT OF THE
CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM?
 Correction plays a key role in rehabilitating offenders, and their main or crucial goal is
to provide system where those accused of any kind of crime are well-monitored,
reformed, and released of when and ready, hopefully they will not repeat their
wrongdoings. They make sure that these criminal offenders have a facilities that are safe
and secured to use, and oversee their everyday routines.

2. WHAT IS THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF CORRECTION?


 Correction has four ultimate goals which includes: retribution, a punishment inflicted
as a form of vengeance; deterrence, is the instillation of fear of punishment in a
potential offender; incapacitation, setting punishments that prevent crime but not
necessarily deterring it; and rehabilitation, the restoration of a convicted person back
into society.

3. IS NON-INSTITUTIONAL CORRECTION THE SAME WITH INSTITUTIONAL


CORRECTION? JUSTIFY.
 Non-institutional correction and institutional correction are not the same in a matter of
non-institutional correction is known as the method of correcting sentenced offenders
without them being sent to prison instead, they use variety of officially ordered program
based sanctions that permit convicted offenders to remain in the community under
supervision as alternative to active imprisonment, while institutional correction are
those private organizations such as the New Bilibid Prison, Manila City Jail, and many
more that are established by the government for the purpose of following and restoring
any kind of violations that happen with those who work for them.

4. LIST DOWN ALL AGENCIES OF THE GOVERNMENT CHARGED WITH


CORRECTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY, AFTER THAT PROVIDE A LEAST ONE
SENTENCE AS YOUR JUSTIFICATION.
 Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) - charged with custody and rehabilitation of national
offenders, those sentenced to serve a term of imprisonment of more than three years.
 Parole and probation administration (PPA) - provide a less costly alternative to
imprisonment of offenders who are likely to respond individualized community based
treatment programs.

5. DIFFERENTIATE WHAT IS ARBITRARY DETENION AND ILLEGAL


DETENTION?
 Arbitrary Detention is defined as the violation of the right to liberty. According to the
Article 124 of the Revised Penal Code, it is the detention and loss of liberty of a person
outside the parameters of internationally agreed-upon norms or nationally acknowledged
legislation. It is committed by any public officer or employee such as police officer or
any individual who without legal grounds to detain a person. On the other hand, under
the Article 267 of the Revised Penal code, Illegal Detention is committed by any
private individual who shall commit the crimes without the attendance of any of the
circumstances. So, any private individual who without legal grounds detain a person can
be charged of illegal detention.

6. WHAT ARE THE CATEGORY OF INMATES? PROVIDE YOUR JUSTIFICATION.


 Super maximum prisoners – special group of prisoners composed of incorrigible,
intractable, and highly dangerous persons who are source of constant disturbances even
in a maximum security prison. They wear orange color of uniform.
 Maximum security prisoners – a group of prisoners whose escape could be dangerous
to the public or the security of the state. They also wear orange color of uniform.
 Minimum security prisoners – a group of prisoners who can be reasonably trusted to
serve sentence under “open conditions.” They wear brown color of uniform.

7. LIST DOWN ALL THE COMMUNITY-BASED CORRECTION PROGRAM.


 Probation Supervision – an offender is supervised under the court-imposed conditions
for a specified time period during which the court can modify conditions for
noncompliance.
 Day Reporting Centers – requires probationers to visit a specific center 3 to 6 days
each week for an average duration of 5 months.
 Community Drug Treatment Program – meeting between 1 and 3 times per week for
a designated period of time while the offenders live and work independently.
 Community Service – offenders labor in unpaid work for the general good of the
community.
 Restitution – court-ordered payment that an offender makes to the victim to offset some
of the losses incurred from the crime.
 Fines – a fixed amount imposed by the judge, defined by the severity of the crime.
 Correctional boot Camps – use military’s philosophy of breaking down and rebuilding
one’s character, physical conditioning and drills o transform an offender into a
responsible adult.

8. WHAT ARE THE CLASSIFICATION OF SENTENCED PRISONER? PROVIDE ITS


DIFFERENCE.
 There are 4 classifications of sentenced prisoners:

1) Insular or national prisoner: these are the prisoners serving a prison sentence
of 3 years and 1 day of prison term to death;
2) Provincial prisoner: prisoners serving a prison sentence of six months and one
day to three years;
3) City prisoner: those serving prison sentence of one day to three years; and
4) Municipal prisoner: those serving prison sentence of one day to six months.

9. IS INMATE SECURITY CLASSIFICATION UTILIZED BY BJMP DIFFERENT


FROM BUCOR? IF YES, JUSTIFY.
 The inmate security classification of these two are different in some ways. The inmate
security classification of BJMP are organized according to security risk wherein it is
classified into nine (9), these are: High Profile inmate, High risk inmate, High Value
Target (HVT), Security Threat Group, Subversive Group, Terrorist Group,
Violence extremis Group (VEO), Medium Risk Inmates, and Minimum risk
inmates (ordinary inmates). While the classification of inmates as to security risk of
BuCor are only classified into three (3), and these are the; maximum security for
highly dangerous or high security inmates, medium security or those cannot be trusted
in less-secured areas, and minimum security or those who can be reasonably trusted.

10. GIVE ATLEAST ONE SUGGESTED ALTERNATIVE FOR DETENTION AND


IMPRISONMENT AND KINDLY ELABORATE.
 Community service is an alternative for detention and imprisonment as it reforms the
criminals. It is an effort to create a good human being out of convicted persons. The
convicted persons offer service to society which he or she owes. This kind of alternative
is appreciated in the society, and also give self-satisfaction, realization, reflection and
comfort to the convicted individuals.
