2 Synopsis : This module introduces students to the understanding of basic units in Mechanics
and the basic principles on which mechanical operations are done. It includes stress
and strain analysis of members under axial loading, loaded beams and their
behaviour including loads on shafts and transmission of power by shafts.
5 Rationale for the inclusion of the course / module in the programme: Refer to Programme Specification
9 Course Learning Outcome (CLO) :On successful completion of this module, you should be able to:
1. Apply the basic units in Mechanical calculations and the basic Newton’s laws.
2. Analyze problems on stress & strain, and deformation under axial loading.
4. Analyze problems on beams using shear force and bending moment diagram
method.
10 Transferable Skills :
The following employability skills are introduced (I), developed (D) and/or assessed (A):
The module comprises Lecture, ICT, Tutorial and Class Test, Assignment, Final Exam
