Information Systems

Information systems (IS) involve a variety of information technologies (IT) such as computers,
software, databases, communication systems, mobile devices and much more, to perform specific
tasks, interact with and inform various actors indifferent organizational or social contexts. Of
general interest to the field of IS are therefore all aspects of the development, deployment,
implementation, use and impact of IS in organizations and society. However, the IS field is not
primarily concerned with the technical and computational aspects of IT. What matters to IS instead
is how technology is appropriated and instantiated in order to enable the realization of IS that fulfill
various actors’– such as individuals, groups or organizations – information needs and requirements
in regards to specific goals and practices. (S.K. Boell, 2015)

QR Code Based Smart Dining System

The advancement in technology has greatly influenced the business transactions. The
adoption of digital technology has led to automation in the hospitality industry. Businesses in the
hospitality industry such as restaurants can be improved with the help of digital systems. The
competition in the restaurant business has increased with the advancements in food ordering
techniques. This project aims to automate the food ordering and billing process in the restaurant as
well as to improve the dining experience of customers. Here we discuss the design &
implementation of the Smart Dining ordering system in real-time with customer's feedback for
restaurants. The system on the user’s table will have all the details of his account as well as the
menu. The order details from the customer’s table are updated and subsequently sent to the
kitchen. The restaurant owner can manage the menu modifications easily. QR scan code provide
fast access to any type of digital media, with no text bound interface getting in the way. Faster input
can mean better service. Touch screens and QR scan codes are practical in automation which has
become even simpler with the advancement in technology.

Information System
The law treats the universities as integrated universities, at this moment, each of the
faculties is almost completely independent. For example, each faculty has it is own
administration office dealing with student services and affairs. Each of the departments at one
faculty (institutes or centers) is served by the same office at the level of the faculty. So, from
administrative point of view, the work is not integrated and centralized at one point - the university,
but at approximately 30 points - all the faculties and other institutions, some of which work in a
completely different way. At the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics the process of
informatization and computerization of its services and administration has begun in the beginning
of the 1990s and was led by prof. d-r Margita Kon-Popovska from the In-stitute of Informatics
through several projects with a final goal to establish an integrated information system
consisting of several applications and databases dealing with various process of the
administration. Unfortunately, due to lack of understanding of the problem from a competent,
systemic and especially from a visionary point of view, the process was severely undermined
by the top management of the faculty and at the very beginning of the 21st century (2000-
2002) all the projects related to students services went to full stop.
