Laboratory Exercise No. 10

Objective
To examine the magnetic field associated with a bar and a horseshoe magnets and construct
the magnetic field lines.

Equipments/Materials/Tools

Method
Prepare the materials and tools needed in this activity which is magnetic field lines. Perform
the activity so that you will learn and get an idea where the north and south poles of the
magnet is located in the bar and the horseshoe magnet.

Illustration:
Figure 10.1
In this figure the south of the horizontal magnet
is on the left and the north is on the right. The
vertical magnet north side is on the top part that
pointing above, while the south side is on the
bottom part that painting below. The power of
the magnetic field will show that the north of
the vertical magnet is attracted to the south of
the vertical magnet.

Figure 10.2

The figure shows that the two (2) horizontal magnets and both poles are pointing to the same
side. Both south side of the magnet points to the right that are vice versa for the north side,
on the center was south and north side facing each other made them attract to each other.

Figure 10.3

In this figure, it shows that both south sides of the bar magnet are facing each other but did
not attract like figure 10.2, but the iron fillings show how both souths repel on each other.
Figure 10.4

Just like on figure 10.3, but only north sides are both facing each other and the iron filings
shows that some north side repel each other.

Figure 10.5

This figure shows the horseshoe magnet and

A bar magnet. The horizontal bar magnet and
It north side is on the left and the right side is
on the right. The left side of the horseshoe is
the south and the right is the north. The horseshoe
and the bar magnet attracts each other because on
its opposite poles.

This figure shows a horseshoe magnet and a bar magnet.
This shows that the north poles of the magnets are on
the right side and the south poles are on the left side.
because of the same pole near on each other, the iron
filings shows how the same corresponding poles repel
each other.
Observation:
I have observed in the experiment that when you place both or the same poles near each
other, the iron filings are repelling but when you place opposite poles near each other, the
iron filings are attracting each other. The figures shows the direction of magnetic force at a
given position

Analysis:
After performing the laboratory, you cannot identify where the field of magnetism direction
without using iron filings. Only opposite pole attract each other and same poles repel each
other that cause the magnet to turn and find the pole that is compatible to each other.

Conclusion:
Therefore I conclude that the laboratory shows the magnetic field of the magnet by using the
iron filing. The number of lines of forces per unit area determines the strength of magnetic
field at that point.
