Design, Analysis and Fabrication of

Negative
Poisson’s
Ratio
Materials Using Additive Manufacturing.

Objective
Design, Analyse and fabricate Negative Poisson’s ratio materials using addit-
ive manufacturing and validate the results obtained using FEM.
Scope
Fabrication of 2D Auxetic structural layers using additive manufacturing.
Determination of different mechanical properties like fracture toughness,
shear modulus, indentation resistance, damping ratio etc.
Experimentation is performed to collect data and visually verify the pred-
icted behaviour.
Validation of FEM results with experimentally obtained results.

Introduction
With an increasing demand of materials having superior structural properties, there
emerges a new area of research regarding Auxetic materials. These materials have a
negative value of Poisson’s ratio and exhibit unique mechanical properties. Our rep-
ort presents the study and analysis done on such structures having
Negative Poisson’s Ratio and quantifies the advantage of using
Auxetic materials.
