The study was conducted on college students about the impact procrastination have towards

student’s performances, stress and health, including the advantages and disadvantages of

lingering to do tasks.

2. What is the author’s view? How do I know?

The author’s view as seen in abstract is that procrastination is harmful for students in long

term.

I could know it on account of the study results written in abstract area that says “although

procrastinators felt less stressed in the beginning of the semester, they felt more stressful,

deteriorate in physical and mental health as well as bad academic performances” (Tice and

Baumeister, 1997).

3. What is the evidence presented by the author to support ideas?

The authors presented the data they’ve found to support the ideas in both study 1 and study 2.

One of them is, it is stated in the result and discussion part of that “Procrastinators received

significantly lower grades that non-procrastinators both on term paper, r=-.29, and on the two

exams, r=-.64.” (Tice and Baumeister, 1997, p.455).

4. Is the evidence valid? How do I know?

The evidence is valid as it is the result obtained after conducting the experiment on 44

students taking the health psychology course (Tice and Baumeister, 1997, p.455).

5. Is the evidence relevant? How do I know?

The evidence is relevant as it shows the result on the effects of procrastination and lingering

towards academic performances, health and stress.

6. Have I heard/read anything similar or dissimilar? What was it?

I’ve seen a Ted Talk video on YouTube by Tim Urban called “Inside the mind of a master

Procrastinator”. (Urban, 2016) It explained how the brain of the procrastinators works.

7. Do I agree or disagree with the views expressed by the author? Why?

I agree with the study as well as the view of the authors for I was a procrastinator once. When

I was younger, I used to wait until the last minutes to do tasks, which resulted in low

performance rate as well as high stress level. Hence, I agree with the study and the view

points of the authors.
