BARASOAIN CHURCH

INTRODUCTION:
Barasoain Church, also known as Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Church, is a Roman
Catholic Church built in 1888 in Malolos City, Bulacan. The stone church symbolized the
founding of the town of Barasoain, which was then a separate entity from the towns of Malolos
and Santa Isabel.
Having earned the title of the "Cradle of Democracy in the East, the most important
religious building in the Philippines", and the site of the First Philippine Republic. The church is
proverbial for its historical importance among Filipinos. The National Historical Commission of
the Philippines has finally handed over to Bulacan Parishioners the recently repaired Barasoain
Church (NHCP). On September 15, the NHCP used social media to officially announce the
transfer of the historic church to the general public in honor of the 122nd Malolos Congress.
The restoration of the historic church in Bulacan, formerly known as Our Lady of Mt.
Carmel Parish, as well as the nearby convent, lasted 390 days and cost Php19.3 million. It was
overseen by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines' Historic Preservation
Division. The Bulacan provincial government led the turnover ceremony in a quiet manner
because of the ongoing coronavirus disease pandemic. The image of the church’s facade had
been imprinted in the Philippine ten-peso note from 1985 to 2002.
It is one of the most dynamic regions in the country today, home to thriving industrial
estates and economic zones that continue to attract local and foreign investors. Last year,
Central Luzon was among the four regions that posted the highest economic growth, as its
economic output rose to 7.4 percent according to data from the Philippine Statistics Authority.
Amid its continued modernization and progress, however, Central Luzon has capably preserved
its rich history, diverse cultural heritage, and colorful traditions.
