A countertrend destination: what to see in Armenia in a week

19 February, 2019 by To Take Around the World

Update: September 14, 2020

When we remember Armenia, it brings a smile to our faces. Those who say that the Garden of Eden was
located in this country located between Europe and Asia are not misguided. The immense cultural
richness, the beautiful nature and, above all, the greatness of the Armenian people, are more than
enough reasons to travel to this little-known destination. If you continue reading this post of our route
through Armenia with all the places to see, there is a good chance that you want to know this State that
now may not sound familiar to you. Do you sign up for the challenge?

This destination was the first stop of a month-long trip we made between Armenia, Georgia and
Chechnya (Russia) in search of the origins of JP (if you want to read the article, we have left a link at the
end of this article). Here we leave you our Armenian route.

7-day tour of Armenia

Yerevan – Khorp Virap + Areni – Garni + Geghard – Echmiadzin + Zvartnots – Lake Sevan + Dilijan –

ACTIVITY 10_
EXPERIENCES
Yerevan or Yerevan is the capital of Armenia. Half of the three million inhabitants
of the country live here. Until here you will fly and it will be your first Armenian
destination. It may not be as pretty as other European cities, but it certainly has
an otherworldly charm and life. With each passing day, we liked it more. Night
and day. Quiet, safe, vibrant city...

The heart of Yerevan is the Republic Square. You will pass by here several times a
day, whether you like it or not. During the day it is great but it gains a lot at night,
especially in summer. When the summer months arrive, they put on a light and
sound show in their fountains, which is highly recommended (there are several
shows from 9 to 11 p.m.).

Night

Right next to this square is the Armenian History Museum. The entrance is very
cheap and it is well worth knowing and understanding the complex and, at times,
hard Armenian history. Not so long ago they suffered one of the biggest
genocides that is still very present in the collective memory of the Armenians
residing in the country and the Armenian diaspora in the world (more than 8
million).
