GRAVITY HANGOUTS

TITLE: TAKE OFF YOUR GLASSES

Speaker: Bishop Josh Obeng

Scripture Reference: John 5:39-45 NLT

39 “You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the
Scriptures point to me! 40 Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life.

41 “Your approval means nothing to me, 42 because I know you don’t have God’s love
within you. 43 For I have come to you in my Father’s name, and you have rejected me.
Yet if others come in their own name, you gladly welcome them. 44 No wonder you can’t
believe! For you gladly honor each other, but you don’t care about the honor that comes
from the one who alone is God.[a]

45 “Yet it isn’t I who will accuse you before the Father. Moses will accuse you! Yes,
Moses, in whom you put your hopes.

Ice Breaker Question:

1. What spectacles are you wearing? - What are you looking at life through?

Main Idea:
There are lenses that we have been using to look at life through but there is only one spectacle
we can use, we will learn about it as we discuss the message shared during the overflow
weekend. As Bishop Josh said, he made a decision a few months ago that everytime he will
speaking, it will become a teaching session so that the people that came to listen will leave the
place speaking and ministering like him.

When you ask the right questions, you can find the right answers. Keep those inquiries with you
as the truth will be unveiled before you.

POINT 1 : The tendency of Christians to have their form of righteousness

In this scripture in Isaiah 4:1 NLT tells us that:

“In that day so few men will be left that seven women will fight for each man, saying, “Let us all
marry you! We will provide our own food and clothing. Only let us take your name so we won’t be
mocked as old maids.”

He pointed out that prophets speak in symbols and as we read the new testament we find out
that women are a symbol of the church. The bible says that we are the bride of Christ- the
Church. The bible tells us in revelation that there are seven churches , which means that seven
women will take hold of the one man. The bread represents teaching or doctrine - the word of
God which was stated in Matthew that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word
preceded out from the mouth of God. This verse pointed out that the church will have the
tendency to provide their own teaching or doctrine but they speak the name of Jesus.

Many Christians are comfortable without the

teachings about Jesus Christ in their lives.
[GUIDE QUESTION]
1. Have you reached that point in your walk where you prefer self-help rather than
the teachings about Jesus?

POINT 2: The mystery is how to become more like Christ

Not until a woman becomes fully like Christ and the man becomes fully like Christ, the
relationship will work not just because a prophetic word was said over, it will work for sure.
There are no mysteries for a successful marriage, just becoming more like Christ is the thing
that we need to seek for.

Even in careers, it is impossible for you not to rise when you become like Christ. You will exude
humility and hard-work that it will be so hard for the employer to get rid of you. You may not
know the formula to different areas in your life but the answer has already been given and it’s
Jesus. He is the key to everything.

You only receive life when you search the

scriptures and find Jesus.
[GUIDE QUESTION]
1. How is your devotional? What have you been reading about? Or have you even studied
the word deeply to find Jesus in it?

POINT 3: The real purpose of glasses

When you put on glasses, it has an effect of changing the way you look on the outside but that
is not the purpose of wearing glasses. The purpose of the glasses is to change or dictate your
sight. Seeing the same image, but not seeing the same thing. And most of us have the same
bible but different interpretation because of wrong perspective.

Spiritually minded is life while a carnal-minded is death.

When you are wearing the wrong glasses, you

have the wrong perspective.
[GUIDE QUESTION]
1. In this deeper discussion, let me ask you what spectacles or
glasses would you want to wear now? Why? What have you realized
today?

POINT 4: God is not recognized but revealed

It says in Luke 24:15-21 NLT that

“15 As they talked and discussed these things, Jesus himself suddenly came and began walking
with them. 16 But God kept them from recognizing him.

17 He asked them, “What are you discussing so intently as you walk along?”

They stopped short, sadness written across their faces. 18 Then one of them, Cleopas,
replied, “You must be the only person in Jerusalem who hasn’t heard about all the things
that have happened there the last few days.”

19 “What things?” Jesus asked.

“The things that happened to Jesus, the man from Nazareth,” they said. “He was a
prophet who did powerful miracles, and he was a mighty teacher in the eyes of God and
all the people.20 But our leading priests and other religious leaders handed him over to be
condemned to death, and they crucified him.21 We had hoped he was the Messiah who
had come to rescue Israel. This all happened three days ago.”

Don’t just learn to recognize Jesus but seek revelation of Him in your everyday life. The
people didn’t recognize Jesus because what they knew was the one mentioned in the
historical books not the resurrected one.

Don’t be a PAST TENSE Christian but be a

PRESENT TENSE CHRISTIAN.
[GUIDE QUESTION]
1. What areas in your life the Lord has been dealing with as we close this
discussion? What has been the highlight for you throughout this teaching
personally?

SUMMARY
There was a problem highlighted where there are a number of Christians that go to church but
cannot explain the gospel truthfully and properly to anybody. There have been quite a number of
non-believing Christians, that their doubt is the motivation in seeking God that if He is really the
Lord there has to be proof.

But proof is already given in Acts 1:2-3 NLT

“2 until the day he was taken up to heaven after giving his chosen apostles further instructions
through the Holy Spirit. 3 During the forty days after he suffered and died, he appeared to the
apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. And he
talked to them about the Kingdom of God.”

Jesus’ resurrection is already the proof.

CALL TO ACTION
We respond to the word as we ask the Lord for a new passion to arise in this house and that
which was lost be replaced in this place. A restoration is upon this community as we step into
the foundation of Christianity - JESUS CHRIST.

Receive and seek more understanding on what the prophetic word that was released in this
house means when Saul looks for His Father’s Donkeys in 1 Samuel 9. Symbolically, those
donkeys means something was lost and missing and the thought was that was the end but God
says He was using that process to lead you towards your destiny. When Saul was chasing the
donkeys, he met the prophet Samuel and he told Saul, forget about the donkeys it was never
about them but it was about your destiny. The things missing in your life were used to help you
meet Jesus.
