Title:
Listening has somewhat became the overlooked ability that many people has refused to
improve nowadays. There are a lot of people who hear better, but are they good at listening too? I have
a heard a quote that says, “It takes a great person to be a good listener.” Is it really that hard to listen? Is
listening really important?
To conclude, relationships are created on reciprocity in listening and talking, it is where one
would react and respond to each other appropriately. Therefore, listening is valuable in communication
and success in working on building interpersonal relationships. The value of it might not always be seen
but through perseverance, you can always improve. Again, listening is the key to effective
communication; effective communication is the key to understanding and success. This is the value of
listening.
Listening has somewhat become the overlooked ability that many people have refused to
improve. Many people hear better, but are they good at listening too? I have heard a quote that says, “It
takes a great person to be a good listener.” Is it that hard to listen? Is listening essential?
Hearing, according to Merriam-Webster, is the power of perceiving sound; precisely: the unique
sense by which noises and tones are received as stimuli. On the other hand, listening is paying attention
to sound, hearing something with thoughtful attention, and giving consideration. Many may think of
these two words as similar, but they differ significantly. As we all know, being able to hear is a profound
ability that all humans have, but listening is a skill that a human being must hone to improve
continuously. I am telling you this because listening is an intangible skill with many benefits—not just to
ourselves but to the people around us. This is how valuable listening is to the concept of
communication. Whenever we listen, we value what that person is trying to convey, and on the other
hand, that person will feel heard and appreciated, and vice versa. In addition, when you listen, you take
in more information better, improve problem-solving skills better-socializing skills, and build strong
relationships with others. This is, again, the reason for how valuable listening is. However, a lot don’t
improve the skill to do so. Nevertheless, it is not hard to be a good listener; you have to be someone
who focuses attentively on what the other person is trying to say and engages with their ideas in a
thoughtful, comprehensive way. It is not hard for a great person; you must practice and work on it.
Bring to mind that listening is the key to effective communication; effective communication is
the key to understanding and building interpersonal relationships. Relationships are created on
reciprocity in listening and talking, where one reacts and responds to each other appropriately.
Therefore, this is how valuable listening is in the concept of communication. Although no one will ever
become a perfect listener, you will see improvements with perseverance and practice.
