The most meaningful and important measure of maternal and child health is the infant mortality
rate. This rate is declining steadily, but in the United States it is still higher than in 32 other nations.
1. Look for the most recent statistics for maternal and infant mortality rate in the Philippines.
What are the programs implemented to decrease the number of maternal and infant deaths?

 From year 2012, its Infant Mortality Rate is 24.065 to year 2022, its Infant Mortality Rate is
17.968. therefore, the IMR decreased after 10 years. It means professional did a great work for
improving and avoiding the increase of mortality rate. It decreased 6.097%.

The Philippines' rate of infant mortality in 2020 was 18.42 deaths per 1,000 live births. From
55.08 deaths per 1,000 live births in 1971 to 18.42 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2020, the infant
mortality rate in the Philippines decreased gradually.

2. What are the latest trends in maternal and child healthcare environment to meet the sustainable
developmental goals of WHO?

 The NSMP promotes women giving birth in medical facilities with a Skilled Health Professional's
(SHP) help, such as a doctor or nurse midwife.
 Every pregnant woman is monitored at the local level and directed to a health facility for
antenatal care, labor, and delivery, as well as postpartum and postnatal care.
 Every expecting woman is urged to create a birth plan.
 All birthing facilities, including public and private, must be BEmONC- certified
 Since PhilHealth has authorized all birthing facilities, a lady who is ready to give birth will be
compensated for the costs of the services.
In FAO, Millennium Developmental Goals (Sustainable Development Goals)

 Women in developing countries had access to adequate diets, safe water and sanitation facilities, basic
literacy and health services during pregnancy and childbirth
 Improve women’s access to productive resources and income
 Improve women’s nutritional status
 Empower women to obtain better health care, education and social services.
 Promotes home gardens as a means to improve household and maternal nutrition
