THE NATURE, GOALS, AND PERSPECTIVES IN/OF ANTHROPOLOGY, SOCIOLOGY, AND POLITICAL
SCIENCE.

The study of culture, society, and politics are parts and parcel of a larger body of knowledge with the
integration of systematic process and the scientific method called Social Sciences. Nisbet (1974) stated
that “it is a branch of discipline or branch of science that deals with human behavior in its social and
cultural aspects.” It includes anthropology, sociology, political science, economics, psychology, and
geography as its branches. It is also the field of human knowledge that deals with all aspects of the
group of life of human beings, therefore it is subject to change we change with changes of the human
behavior. Social scientists use empirical research methods to investigate all sorts of interpersonal and
intrapersonal behavior.

Anthropology according to Banks, William E. (2020) is the study of humans, their close relatives, and
their cultural environment. This includes matters about human ancestry, economic process, social
change, and history of the world. It is about how various people can be, and it tries to go through in
what sense that all humans have similarities. It is the study of the human race including our pre-historic
origin and contemporary human diversity. Strauss (1983) explained that anthropology tries to grasp its
object through its most diverse manifestations.’ In addition, Czarina Saloma, et. al., elaborated that
Anthropology came from the Greek word-Anthropos which means ‘human’, and logos means ‘reason’- it
means ‘reason about humans’ or ‘knowledge about humans.’ It is a comparative study of cultural and
social life.

Division of Anthropology:

1. Physical/Biological Anthropology
2. Archeology

3. Culture

4. Linguistics

The second concept is Sociology. Steven Loyal (2003) defines it as the study of human social life, groups,
and society. It seeks to give a deeper assessment of individual and group behavior, including social
events. It gathers social inputs which are composed of frequent forms and manners such as viewpoints,
consolidated values, and norms of social institutions which form part of a social array.

1. It aims to study the nature of humanity.

2. It helps us understand and appreciate society.

3. Make us understand how human actions and consciousness both shape and are shaped by the
surrounding cultural and social structures.

The third one is Political Science. According to the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy,
Political science is a classical discipline that deals with the study of political phenomena. Its goal is to
deepen human understanding of the forms and nature of political action and to develop theoretical
tools for interpreting politically meaningful phenomena. It focuses on fundamental values of equality,
freedom, and justice and its process linked with the dynamics of conflict, resolution, and cooperation.

1. It is a social science that deals with humans and their interactions.

2. It is a discipline that deals with several aspects such as the study of state and government.

This branch of social science aimed to promote better citizens, maintain the order of diverse groups,
integrate, and protect the rights of an individual, promote cooperation, relationship, and governance.
Therefore, Political Science sought progress and protect the quality of life within a group, community,
and the world.

The goals of Anthropology, Sociology, and Political Science are to give us an understanding of how other
societies organize their community and give meaning to their existence. We can see how the society
operates from a patterned culture within the bounds of internal and external forces of power and
authority, with this aim, we are given the challenge to realize the goals of these fields.
