1.0 SCOPE OF SPECIFICATION

1.1 Introduction

1.1.1 This specification covers the minimum requirements for the design, material selection, inspection, testing,
documentation and preparation for shipment of gas and dual fuel engines.

1.1.2 This specification applies to engines in onshore oil and gas production operation and petroleum product
service.

1.1.3 The Vendor/Contractor shall comply fully with the provisions laid down in this specification. Any exception
must be authorised in writing by the Owner.

1.1.4 In the event of any conflict between this specification and the Data Sheets, or with any of the applicable codes
and/or standards, the Vendor/Contractor shall inform the Owner in writing, and receive written clarification
from the Owner before proceeding with the work.

1.1.5 This General Engineering Specification will form part of the Purchase Order/Contract.

1.2 Other NOC Specifications

Where indicated in this specification, the following additional specifications shall apply and any exceptions
shall be approved in advance by the Owner:

The Vendor/Contractor shall ensure all Sub-Contractors comply with the relevant portions of the above
specifications.

1.3 Data Sheets

The technical data supplied by the Owner for the equipment is provided on the Data Sheets which are included
at the end of this specification. The Vendor/Contractor shall complete the Data Sheets with the remaining
information and return them with his proposal. Prior to shipment, the Vendor/Contractor shall submit a
complete set of "As-Built" Data Sheets.

2.0 DEFINITIONS

2.1 Technical

The technical terms used in this specification are defined as follows:

Engine for Continuous Service

An engine provided for continuous operation for at least 2000 hours without routine maintenance, apart from
the inspections during operation specified by the Vendor/Contractor, and which shall not require major
overhaul before 24,000 running hours or 3 years of operation.

Engine for Emergency Service

An engine provided for continuous operation for at least 200 hours without routine maintenance, apart from
the inspections during operation specified by the Vendor/Contractor, and which shall not require major
overhaul before 6,000 running hours or 3 years of operation.

Engine Conventional Power (Net Brake Power)

The net continuous brake horsepower that can be delivered by the engine between the normal intervals for
maintenance at the ambient conditions, using the design fuel at the rotation speed specified by the
Vendor/Contractor. The ISO Standard power as defined in paragraph 7.4.1.2 of the ISO Standard 3046/1 is
covered by this definition.

Engine Rated Power (Service Power)

The net brake horsepower delivered by the engine during continuous operation at the ambient conditions,
using the design fuel at the design speed. The service power as defined in para 7.4.2 of the ISO Standard
3046/1 is covered by this definition. The design ambient, operating conditions and fuel, shall be specified by
the Owner.

Reference Engine

An engine of the same series and type, which has operated in continuous service for at least 24,000 hour or 3
years, and on which major overhaul has already been carried out as required by the Vendor/Contractor.

The Owner can request any information regarding the operation of this engine.

2.2 Contractual

The commercial terms used in this specification are defined as follows:

Owner

The oil or gas company, an associate or subsidiary, who is the end user of the equipment and facilities.

Vendor

The company supplying the equipment and material.

Contractor

The main contractor for a defined piece of work.

Sub-Contractor

A company awarded a contract by a contractor to do part of the work awarded to the Contractor.

Inspection Authority

The organisation representing the Owner or Contractor that verifies that the equipment and facilities have been
designed, constructed, inspected and tested in accordance with the requirements of this specification and the
Purchase Order/Contract.

Inspector

A qualified individual representing the Owner, Vendor/Contractor or assigned Inspection Authority, who
verifies that the equipment and facilities have been designed, constructed, inspected and tested in accordance
with the requirements of this specification and the Purchase Order/Contract.

3.0 DESIGN

3.1 Codes and Standards

Gas and dual fuel engines manufactured to this specification shall conform to the following codes and

3.2 Scope of Supply

The engine and the driven machine shall be mounted on a common fabricated baseplate and supplied as a total
package (with gears, couplings etc. as required) by the Vendor/Contractor. The scope of supply, as a
minimum, shall consist of:

- engine,
- flywheel and coupling guard,

- engine lubrication system,


- starting system,
- barring or turning device,
- air inlet system,
- exhaust system,
- engine cooling system,
- fuel and ignition systems,
- control system, including governor,
- special tools for maintenance,
- instrumentation and control panel,
- protective devices.

Additional items shall be specified on the Data Sheets.

3.3 General Guidelines

The Owner shall state if the engine is to be designed for only gaseous fuel, or for dual fuel operation.

Gas engines designed to operate on gaseous fuel only shall be provided with spark ignition.

Dual fuel engines shall have gaseous fuel as primary fuel, with ignition provided by injection of a small
quantity of diesel fuel, by means of a conventional diesel fuel injection system. Dual fuel engines are
preferred for hazardous areas.

Engines shall be selected from the Vendor/Contractor's standard ranges.

Specific requirements for each installation shall be detailed on the Data Sheets.

GES A.04, shall apply. The sound pressure level measured at 3.3 ft.(1 m) from the surface of the equipment
shall not exceed 95 dB(A).

Engines shall be designed and rated for continuous unattended operation or intermittent operation (standby or
emergency), as specified in the Data Sheets.

Engines shall be suitable for starting at the most unfavourable ambient conditions, as defined in the Data
Sheets.

Unless otherwise indicated in the Data Sheets, engines including auxiliaries shall be suitable for unsheltered
outdoor installation.

The engine shall be sized according to the design parameters and guidelinesas follows:

- for dual fuel engines, the total specific fuel consumption shall be stated,

- the bore and stroke, and number of cylinders shall be selected from the Vendor/Contractor's standard
ranges, so that the continuous rating is at least 5% greater than the total absorbed power of the driven
machine, plus transmission and engine driven auxiliaries, under all operating conditions and the most
unfavourable conditions specified. The Owner shall advise the power required from the engine and
the expected frequency and duration of required power and corresponding speeds.

3.4 Performance

The rated power at continuous speed rating shall be in accordance with ISO 3046/1:

- at standard reference conditions (barometer 14.5 psia (100 kPa abs), ambient air temperature 77°F
(25°C), relative humidity 30%) and based on natural gas fuel containing at least 95% methane;

- the service power continuous rating shall be stated for the site ambient conditions, and the fuel
analysis as given by the Owner in the data sheet, and at maximum speed as required by the driven
equipment.

- the overload power, permitted for one hour within a 12-hour period, shall be as defined in ISO
3046/1 (this can be deleted for engines running on gas fuel only);

- for dual fuel engines, the overload power shall be achieved by changeover to diesel operation, and the
Vendor/Contractor shall state the maximum output available when operating on diesel fuel only;

- the power rating designation code, as used on the nameplate, shall be in accordance with ISO 3046/7;

- the specific fuel consumption shall be stated in accordance with ISO 3046/1. The Vendor/Contractor
shall confirm his acceptance of the normal fuel analysis given by the Owner, and advise on any
restrictions required for particular constituents;

- the Vendor/Contractor shall allow for the power absorbed by all auxiliaries driven by the engine,
when declaring the engine rating;

- the operating limits given in ISO 8528/3 shall apply to engine driven generator sets.

3.5 Torsional Vibration

The engine Vendor/Contractor shall provide the Sub-Contractor who provides the driven equipment with
all necessary data for the equipment in his supply. The Sub-Contractor shall be responsible for making the
calculations and preparing a report to ensure that the torsional vibration conditions of the set are
satisfactory, and in accordance with procedures in ISO 3046/5.

The torsional natural frequencies of the rotating system shall not be within 10% of any shaft speed at any
operating condition.

3.6 Guards

Guards shall be provided for the flywheel, all couplings and belt drives. Drive belts shall be manufactured
from anti-static fire-resistant material. Belt guards shall be manufactured from a non-sparking material.

3.7 Crankcase Relief Valves

Explosion relief valves and flame arrestors shall be fitted to the crankcase.

3.8 Engine Lubrication System

A full flow oil pressure system shall be provided with wet sump, strainer, pump, cooler, and duplex oil
filters with changeover valve, oil pressure relief valve and all interconnecting piping, fittings and
instruments.

The oil pump shall be gear type, driven from the engine crankshaft.

Oil filters shall be full flow, replaceable element type. The filters shall be equipped with a differential
pressure indicator and alarm.

The oil cooler shall be of shell and tube type, using engine jacket coolant where water cooling is specified,
or of radiator type where air cooling is specified.

A 3-way thermostatic valve shall be provided to control lube oil temperature.

A manually operated priming oil pump shall be supplied for priming the system.

If the engine requires a pressurised supply of oil prior to starting, a separate electric motor driven auxiliary
oil pump shall be provided by the Vendor/Contractor.

If the Vendor/Contractor considers it necessary, an explosion-proof, thermostatically controlled crankcase


sump heater(s) shall be provided for starting at the minimum ambient temperature specified on the Data
Sheets.

3.9 Starting System

The method of starting required shall be stated on the Data Sheets, e.g. battery start, compressed air start,
hydraulic start, etc. and prvide the number of 15 second start attempts as specified on the Data Sheets.

Battery start system shall include, as a minimum, a set of batteries, starter motor and, as specified in the
data sheet, either engine driven recharging alternator and regulated charging circuit, or battery charger
supplied from external electric system. Batteries shall be suitably housed. Battery amp-hour capacity
shall be sufficient to start the engine at the lowest specified ambient temperature. Battery start systems
shall not be used in hazardous locations.

Air start system shall include, as a minimum, air motor starter (for air motor start system), flywheel ring,
gear, 3-way starting valve, isolation valve, piping and fittings, and safety relief valve. A check valve shall
be provided in the air starting line adjacent to each engine cylinder. For direct air start system, when
specified in the data sheet, a charging compressor and receiver shall be provided.

Hydraulic start system shall include, as a minimum, hydraulic motor, accumulator, engine-driven
recharging pump, hand pump for manual recharge, all piping, fittings and controls.

All starting systems shall be fully interlocked with any barring over or turning device to ensure operator
safety during maintenance.

3.10 Air Intake System

The engine will normally be installed in the open with air filter/silencer mounted on the turbocharger or
engine. The Vendor/Contractor shall supply an air intake filter/silencer suitable for the site environmental
conditions (e.g. wind blown sand, etc). On naturally aspirated engines, a backfire relief valve shall be
supplied.

If specified, the Vendor/Contractor shall supply ducting for remote mounted filters and flame arrestor.
Ducting shall have internal surface corrosion protection, and shall be air-tight.

3.11 Exhaust System

A complete exhaust system shall be supplied, including engine exhaust manifold, a flexible stainless steel
bellows-type expansion joint with inner lining, a silencer, and discharge ducting with a spark-arrestor
fitted to the end of the discharge.

The exhaust system shall be designed, shielded or insulated so that no external surface shall reach a
temperature which can ignite leaking fuel. The Vendor/Contractor's proposed arrangement of the exhaust
system, and location of the final discharge, shall be reviewed and approved by the Owner.

Hot exhaust system components which constitute a danger to personnel shall be insulated to limit surface
temperature to 120°F (49°C), or else shielded.

Where the engine is to operate in a hazardous area, the Vendor/Contractor shall advise the Owner of the
maximum expected surface temperature, under maximum ambient conditions, to determine if the exhaust
manifold needs to be water jacketed.

3.12 Cooling System

3.12.1 The Owner shall specify on the Data Sheets if an external supply of cooling water is available and is to be
used for engine cooling systems, or alternatively if ambient air is to be used for cooling.

3.12.2 For water cooled engines, a complete closed circulation jacket water system shall be provided. This shall
include overhead make-up and expansion tank, pump, cooler, interconnecting pipework, fittings and
instruments. The Vendor/Contractor shall recommend suitable corrosion inhibitors for the jacket water.

If minimum ambient temperatures of less than 32°F (0°C) are specified on the Data Sheets, then the
system shall be suitable for using a solution of up to 50% by weight of ethylene glycol

Vents shall be provided at all high points in the system, and a low point drain connection shall be
provided.

Where an external water supply for cooling is specified, the jacket water cooler shall be of the shell and
tube type.

The jacket water circulating pump shall be arranged for belt drive from the engine. The pump shall be of
the centrifugal type, with mechanical seal.

The water make-up and expansion tank shall be suitably supported, and complete with make-up inlet
valve and overflow. Adequate capacity shall be provided to prevent overflow during emergency
shutdowns.

3.12.3 Turbo-charged engines shall have one or more coolers (inter-coolers and/or after-coolers). Where an
external water supply is to be used for engine cooling, then these coolers shall be of shell and tube type.
The system shall be arranged such that the external water is passed in series, first through the inter-coolers,
and then the lube oil cooler and jacket water cooler.

Where air cooling is specified, then the cooling may be arranged using either:

- direct air/air coolers: the temperature of the air to the engine shall be controlled using a
thermostatically controlled cooler by-pass. Direct air-cooled engines shall be used for auxiliary or
intermittent duty, only in non-hazardous locations;

- or a separate closed water system, with water-cooled shell and tube type exchanger to cool the engine
air, plus an ambient air cooler to cool the circulating water. The Vendor/Contractor shall supply
complete system including inter-cooler(s), belt driven centrifugal pump, jacket water make-up and
expansion tank, low point drain, vent and pipework, fittings and instruments.

The temperature control of the jacket water shall be obtained using a cooler by-pass thermostatic valve.
Engine mounted inlet and outlet temperature indicators shall be provided. Water temperature rise across

the engine shall be limited to 15°F (8°C).

Air-cooled coolers for lube oil, jacket water and inter-cooler shall be combined in a single galvanised steel
frame with supports, which may, if necessary, be separate from the engine set package.

All engine cooling systems (for lube oil, jacket water and air inter-cooler) shall be designed for the full
service horsepower of the engine. All coolers shall be designed with minimum fouling resistance of
0.003°F ft2h/Btu (0.017°C m2/W) for coolant.

3.13 Fuel and Ignition Systems

3.13.1 Fuel Gas System

The Vendor/Contractor shall supply a single flanged inlet connection, pressure regulating valve, check
valve, automatic shut-off valve, flame traps and pipework and fittings to the gas manifold on the engine.

The Vendor/Contractor shall supply air/fuel ratio controls linked to the governor.

3.13.2 Ignition System

For engines which run only on gas, two spark plugs per cylinder shall be provided with separate ignition
coils. The power shall be provided by the engine driven generator.

Controls for ignition advance shall be provided if required.

3.13.3 Dual Fuel Engines

The quantity of diesel fuel to be injected during gaseous fuel operation shall be pre-set.

Dual fuel engines shall have the ability to be changed over in each direction between gaseous fuel and full
diesel fuel operation, whilst maintaining engine load and speed.

In the event of low fuel gas supply pressure, automatic changeover to full diesel operation and isolation of
the gas supply, shall be provided.

The pilot diesel fuel system shall include:

- engine driven fuel injection pumps,


- engine driven fuel supply pump,
- duplex fuel filters with changeover valve and replaceable elements to permit removal and
replacement of either filter without need for engine shutdown, or breaking fuel line connections, a
dedicated differential pressure indicator for each filter housing and air vent valve,
- fuel drains and drain tank(s),
- actuated fuel isolation valve for remote operation in the fuel supply line.

The diesel fuel system shall be designed to prevent leakages of fuel, and protection shall be provided
against any leakages, dripping or spraying on to high temperature surfaces.

Fuel system components shall be mounted either on the engine or on the base frame. The diesel fuel inlet
pipe shall terminate at the edge of the base frame.

If specified on the Data Sheets, the Vendor/Contractor shall supply a diesel fuel day tank with capacity for
24-hours continuous diesel fuel only operation. The Vendor/Contractor shall supply supports, access

ladder, platform and handrailing, where required. The tank shall be provided with inlet isolation valve,
strainer, level float valve, level gauge, high/low level alarms, vent outlet isolation valve, drain valve and
overflow. If specified, a single tank shall be used to supply all engines where more than one is to be
installed. The Vendor/Contractor shall supply all interconnecting pipework and fittings between the day
tank(s) and engine(s).

3.14 Controls/Governor

3.14.1 Governor

A governor shall be provided. The governor classification shall be defined in accordance with ISO
3046/4.

For engines, driving compressors or pumps, a Class A2 governor is usually acceptable. The
Vendor/Contractor shall obtain confirmation of this from the driven equipment Sub-contractor.

For engine generator sets, special requirements shall apply, see ISO 8528/3 (1993) and ISO 8528/4.

For mechanical drive applications, the governor shall be designed for either manual or automatic speed
setting. The signal for either automatic or remote manual setting shall be provided by the driven
equipment supplier.

3.15 Overspeed Protection

An overspeed limiting device shall be fitted to the engine. The driven equipment Sub-contractor shall be
responsible for ensuring that the set speed of the overspeed limiting device is satisfactory with respect to
the maximum permissible speeds specified by the Vendor/Contractor and this Sub-contractor.

Any damage or fault in the overspeed limiting device shall cause shutdown of the engine.

Provision shall be made so that activation of the overspeed limiting device can be indicated on the control
panel.

An overspeed shutdown condition shall cause the overspeed limiting device to latch in the shutdown
position. Resetting of the device shall be manual.

3.16 Instrumentation/Panel

3.16.1 Instrumentation

All instruments necessary for operation of the engine and auxiliaries shall be provided. Instrumentation
shall comply with GES J.14.

All instrument cables between locally mounted items and the panel shall be included.

3.16.2 Control Panel

The control panel shall contain all of the shutdown and alarm logic, and the controls for the engine. The
panel shall contain, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:

- start/stop push-buttons,
- alarm/shutdown accept button,
- lamp test button,
- annunciator with provision for showing the first out shutdown signal,

- speed indicator,
- engine hour meter,
- gaseous fuel/diesel fuel changeover switch c/w indicator for mode of operation.

The panel shall be complete with all internal electrical wiring and pneumatic circuitry.

The panel shall be free-standing and mounted on the common baseplate/skid.

3.16.3 Local Instrument Panel

The engine shall be equipped with an engine mounted instrument panel, containing as a minimum:

- lube oil pressure,


- lube oil supply/return temperatures,
- jacket water supply/return temperatures,
- indication for gaseous fuel/diesel fuel mode of operation,
- gas supply pressure upstream & downstream of regulator valve.

3.16.4 Engine Shutdowns and Alarms

The following are the minimum shutdown requirements for the engine. The Vendor/Contractor shall
make provision for the necessary switches and sensors:

- high fuel gas pressure downstream of regulator valve,


- low lube oil pressure,
- engine overspeed,
- jacket water temperature,
- charge air temperature.

An emergency shutdown button shall be provided.

The following are the minimum alarm requirements:

- high fuel gas pressure downstream of regulator valve,


- low lube oil pressure,
- high jacket water temperature,
- high lube oil temperature,
- low jacket water level,
- low fuel level (where day tank is provided),
- high lube oil filter differential pressure,
- high air filter differential pressure,
- low lube oil level,
- high exhaust gas temperature,
- low fuel gas pressure.

3.17 Baseplate

A single fabricated baseplate for the engine and the driven equipment shall be supplied by the
Vendor/Contractor, if specified in the Data Sheets. Suitable anti-vibration mounts shall be provided under
the baseplate to limit the engine vibrations transmitted to the foundations.

3.18 Climatic Conditions

The Vendor/Contractor shall confirm that the engine is suitable for continuous operation in the
environmental conditions described on the Data Sheets. The Vendor/Contractor shall advise on the Data
Sheets in his proposal, if any equipment needs to be protected from solar radiation.

If protection from the solar radiation is required, this shall be provided by the Owner.

4.0 MATERIALS

All materials shall be to ASTM Standards.

Welding of piping or pressure containing parts, shall be in accordance with ASME VIII and IX.

5.0 INSPECTION

5.1 Procedures

5.1.1 The inspection requirements are covered by the document "General Conditions of Purchase" which forms
part of the Purchase Order/Contract. Additional requirements are given below.

5.1.2 All equipment items referenced within this specification shall be subject to inspection by the Owner or its
nominated Inspection Authority.

All inspection requirements shall be incorporated in the Quality Control Plan which shall be submitted to
the Owner before commencement of manufacture for review and approval. The quality control plan shall
be coordinated with and shall include the quality plan of major subvendors. The Vendor/Contractor shall
submit procedures for all applicable NDT techniques for approval by the Owner before production
commences.

5.1.3 All operators of NDT equipment shall have thorough knowledge of the operation of the equipment to be
used and shall hold an appropriate certificate of competence, which is to be agreed by the Owner. All
NDT procedures and qualifications shall be subject to approval by the Owner’s Inspector.

5.1.4 All engines over 100 rated horsepower (75 kW) shall be inspected by the Owner’s Inspector.

5.1.5 On completion of shop erection, the frame lubricating system shall be flushed with hot oil at 180°F (82°C)
for at least 8 hours, using an oil rate at least equal to that of the main oil pump at design speed. On
completion of this flush, the Vendor/Contractor shall demonstrate to the Inspector's satisfaction, that the
lube system is clean and free from sand, weld beads, slag or cuttings of a size larger than the filter opening
(max. 10 micron).

5.1.6 The engine, including cast-in passages and any piping and appurtenances furnished by the package
Vendor/Contractor, shall be mechanically or chemically cleaned to remove all dirt, chips, sand, oil, paint,
pipe or mill scale, rust, weld rod, weld slag or beads, or other foreign objects.

5.1.7 A final inspection shall be made by the Owner’s Inspector for cleanliness of the engine and all piping and
appurtenances furnished by or through the Vendor/Contractor. The Vendor/Contractor shall give prior
written notice to the Inspector that the equipment is clean and ready for inspection.

5.1.8 The Vendor/Contractor is to furnish the Owner's Inspector with all reasonable facilities, to satisfy himself
that the equipment, including Sub-Contractors materials, is fabricated and tested in accordance with the
relevant code and this specification.

5.1.9 Any approvals given by the Owner's Inspector does not relieve the Vendor/Contractor of any
responsibility regarding guarantees, workmanship or compliance with the code and this specification.

5.2 Nameplates

A stainless steel nameplate shall be securely attached at an easily accessible point on the equipment, with
the following information:

- manufacturer's name,
- order number,
- equipment tag number,
- engine model number,
- engine rating;,
- engine serial number,
- engine speed in rpm,
- year of manufacture.

All nameplates shall be in English.

Rotation Arrows indicating direction of rotation shall be attached to the engine casing.

6.0 TESTING

6.1 Required Tests

6.1.1 Engine or pressure containing auxiliary parts shall be hydrostatically tested with water in accordance with
the following schedule:

Tests shall be maintained for a sufficient period of time to permit complete examination of parts under
pressure, with a minimum period of 30 minutes.

6.1.2 Acceptance tests shall be carried out in the Vendor/Contractor's works, in accordance with ISO 3046/2
and ISO 3046/3. Tests on engines which drive generators shall be made on the complete set, i.e. with the
engine driving the generator.

All testing shall be carried out using the contract heat exchangers, governor and overspeed device.

A written test procedure shall be submitted prior to the test.

6.2 Test Procedures

No type of preservative or paint shall be allowed to cover any joint, mechanical or welded, before the
pressure test is completed.

Test pressure gauges shall be of the direct reading type and shall be periodically calibrated. The certificate
of calibration shall be presented to the Inspector, prior to the start of tests.

Test pressure gauges shall be connected directly. In cases where the test gauge is not visible to the
operator, a second local gauge shall be provided.

6.3 Test Certificates

Certified copies of hydrostatic and running test records, in the requested number, shall be provided. These
records shall include performance data for all final tests, including all difficulties. The running test records
shall include the ambient conditions, test site elevation above sea level and composition & heating value
of the fuels used.

6.4 Start-up

6.4.1 When required by the Owner, the Vendor/Contractor shall be responsible for the package startup until unit
is accepted as operational by the Owner. In this case, the Vendor/Contractor shall be responsible for the
supply of competent servicemen for the duration of the checking, startup and run-on period.

6.4.2 When required by the Owner, the Vendor/Contractor shall supply for startup, all lubricating fluids,
including oil, grease and coolants as required by the unit. The Vendor/Contractor shall recommend the
amount and type of lubrication and cooling fluids for subsequent operation.

7.0 DOCUMENTATION

7.1 Introduction

This section covers the documentation requirements for design, materials, inspection, testing, installation
and operation of the engine.

7.2 Schedules and Reports

7.2.1 The Vendor/Contractor shall supply with his tender, a production schedule showing submission of all
documents for review and approval, proposed sub-contractors and material procurement and a
production/fabrication programme. After an order is placed, this shall be updated and re-submitted at an
interval to be agreed between the Owner and the Vendor/Contractor.

7.2.2 Similarly, a progress report shall be issued by the Vendor/Contractor at the same intervals as the
production schedule. The Vendor/Contractor shall submit with his tender a Quality Control Plan for the
contract.

7.2.3 After the contract award, monthly reports on design, material procurement and production progress shall
be submitted to the Owner.

7.2.4 A co-ordination meeting shall be held within six weeks of the placement of the Purchase Order/Contract to
review all engineering and manufacturing requirements of the order.

7.3 Data and Calculations

7.3.1 The documents detailed below shall be submitted for approval/review to the Owner and to the Inspection
Authority within the periods agreed between the Owner and Vendor/Contractor. It shall be the
responsibility of the Vendor/Contractor to ensure that the production schedule takes into account
documentation submission periods, plus a three week approval review period by the Owner and/or the
Inspection Authority. The Vendor/Contractor shall be responsible for obtaining approvals from the
Inspection Authority.

7.3.2 All calculations shall be carried out in a clear and logical manner. The source of formulae or methods
shall be clearly referenced. Computer calculations will only be accepted if all input is shown, together
with calculated values of intermediate terms and factors and the computer program has been validated to
the satisfaction of the Owner.

7.3.3 The Vendor/Contractor shall submit as a minimum, the data and calculations as follows:

Proposals

The following data shall be provided with the proposal:

- copy of the Owner's Data Sheets with the Vendor/Contractor's technical data entered,
- engine rating and specific fuel consumption at standard conditions and at maximum continuous
speed,
- rating and specific fuel consumption for site conditions, and at the speeds required by the driven
machine,
- performance curves for power and specific fuel consumption with speed,
- available power and expected fuel consumption versus ambient temperature and speed curves,
- time from ignition to rated minimum power at the site ambient condition,
- list of the engine-driven auxiliaries,
- power required for all non-engine driven auxiliaries,
- number of starts and times available with proposed starting system,
- quantity of cooling water and instrument air required,
- reference lists for similar engines;
- a list of the special tools included in the offer,
- list of proposed instrumentation, including alarms and trips,
- description of governor and controls,
- description of proposed panel,
- copy of Owner's Vendor Drawing and Data Requirement form, with proposed dates for submission
entered,
- exceptions/comments to Owner's specifications/Data Sheets,
- statement of time between major overhauls, and recommended periods between inspections and
minor overhauls,
- details of auxiliaries, including makes, materials and types.

Contractual

- completed Data Sheets,


- torsional vibration report,
- reports of performance tests,
- hydrostatic pressure test certificates,
- material certificates.

7.4 Drawings

7.4.1 Review and approval of drawings shall be according to the commercial section of the proposal/contract.

7.4.2 The Vendor/Contractor shall submit as a minimum, the data and drawings as follows:

Proposals

- preliminary dimensional outline and arrangement drawing of engine and estimated weight.
Recommended space required for maintenance and overhaul, and withdrawal space for components
and maximum maintenance lifts. Where the Vendor/Contractor is providing the skid, the skid outline
and the proposed location of all auxiliaries should also be shown;

- typical cross-sectional drawings and literature to fully describe the engine and auxiliaries;

- preliminary outline and arrangement drawings for auxiliaries.

Contractual

Final issues of the drawings defined in 7.4.2 above.

7.5 Manuals

7.5.1 Data Book

2 copies data books shall be provided containing:

- as-built Owner's Data Sheets,


- certified performance curves,
- final drawings (as defined in paragraph 7.4.2),
- spare parts list (see paragraph 8.2),
- utility data,
- mechanical running test logs,
- performance test logs.

7.5.2 Installation, Operating and Maintenance Manual

Six (6) copies of Installation, Operating and Maintenance Manuals shall be provided

8.0 PRIOR TO SHIPMENT

8.1 Painting

Surface preparation and painting shall be in accordance with GES X.01 with colour coding of equipment
and piping in accordance with GES X.02 using a system which complies with GES X.03.

8.2 Spares

The Vendor/Contractor shall submit with his initial equipment proposal, a priced list of recommended
spare parts for "Commissioning", "Start-up" and for "Two Years Operation".

After review/approval of this list by the Owner, these spares shall be ordered and delivered with the main
equipment.

8.3 Packing and Storage

All flanged openings shall be provided with 3/16 in (5 mm) thick minimum metal closures with neoprene
rubber gaskets and a minimum of four full diameter bolts. All unpiped openings shall be fitted with solid
round shank steel plugs or caps.

The Vendor/Contractor shall recommend procedures for storage up to two years in unsheltered outdoor
conditions.

The equipment shall be prepared for export shipment by sea. Shipment as non-containerised deck cargo is
not allowed.

8.4 Shipping

Detailed shipping arrangements are covered by the Purchase Order/Contract.

The engine with driven equipment where applicable and all furnished auxiliaries shall be shipped fully
assembled on the baseplate except that coupling spacers shall be removed, boxed and tagged and attached
to the skid with any other items which are better shipped separately e.g. instrumentation.

The equipment shall not leave the Vendor/Contractor's works for shipment until the release has been
approved by the Owner's Inspector.

8.5 Warranty

The Contractor shall provide manufacturer's written guarantees of the engine performance.

The Vendor/Contractor shall warrant all materials and services supplied against any defect for a minimum
of 12 months after commissioning or 24 months from the date of delivery to site, whichever is the shorter
period, or for the period stipulated in the Purchase Order/Contract.

Should any item be found defective, the vendor shall be responsible for all costs associated with restoring
the equipment to the standard specified by the Purchase Order/Contract.
