PDG India Policy

1.0 PURPOSE
The purpose of this work procedure is to establish system for implementing and maintaining the
following Policies to ensure safety in all DC projects in India.
1.1. Health & Safety Policy
1.2. Drug & Alcohol Policy

2.0 SCOPE
This procedure applies to all persons who working in DC project sites including contractors throughout
India.

3.0 PROCEDURE
3.1 Health & Safety Policy
3.1.1 PDG has defined the management intentions, principles of action and aspirations with respect
to OHS that will be applied throughout the company’s activities. The policy is documented.
3.1.2 The Health and Safety policy shall be well communicated and displayed through display
boards, posters etc., at project conspicuous locations to make the same available to all
employees and subcontractors, implemented and maintained.
3.1.3 The OHS policy shall be provided in other means of communications language understood by
majority of workers.
3.1.4 The policy shall be made available to all interested parties.

3.1.5 The interested parties define as “a person or organization that can affect, be affected
by, or perceive itself to be affected by a decision or activity.”

3.2 Drug & Alcohol Policy


3.2.1 Introduction

Being under the influence of alcohol or drugs can seriously impair an individual’s judgement
and reactions leading to an increased risk of accidents and injuries occurring. Alcohol and
drug abuse problems can also have a detrimental effect on work performance and behaviour.

The aim of this policy is to ensure the safety of all employees, contractor, and visitors by
having clear rules in place regarding use and possession of alcohol and drugs, and to support
those who have reported a problem with alcohol or drug dependence.

The purpose of the policy, alcohol dependence is defined as:

"The habitual drinking of intoxicating liquor by an employee, whereby the employee's ability
to perform his/her duties is impaired or his/her attendance at work is interfered with, or
he/she endangers the safety of others".

Drug dependence is defined as:

"The habitual taking of drugs by an employee other than drugs prescribed as medication,
whereby the employee's ability to perform his/her duties is impaired, or his/her attendance at
work is interfered with, or he/she endangers the safety of others".

This policy is designed to comply with relevant legislation such as the Building and Other
Construction Workers Act 1996 Rule 166 and Narcotics Control Bureau, India.

3.2.2 General policy provisions

3.2.2.1 This policy applies to all employees.


3.2.2.2 All employees will be treated consistently and fairly in line with this policy and all matters
concerning alcohol and drugs shall be treated as confidential.
3.2.2.3 This policy will be communicated to all employees at induction and the policy will be made
available on the intranet and PDG established common communication platform.
3.2.2.4 The Company will raise awareness of alcohol or drug issues in the workplace and will
provide signposting to employees of the support that is available. This awareness raising will
include providing information leaflets, information on staff notices boards and /or be included
on the wellbeing pages on the intranet.
3.2.2.5 All Managers will receive training on how to identify, deal with and provide support to staff
that may have alcohol and drug issues.

3.2.3 Enforcement

3.2.4 The policy on alcohol and drugs will be strictly enforced.


3.2.5 Disciplinary action in accordance with the Company disciplinary procedures will be undertaken
where breaches of the policy occur. In the case of agency workers or contractors, services may
be terminated immediately upon a breach of the policy.
3.2.6 When there is reasonable belief that an individual is under the influence of alcohol or drugs on
reporting for work or during work, they must be sent home immediately. In addition, possession
of or dealing in illegal drugs on Company premises will, without exception, be reported to the
Police.
