REVIT WEBINAR REFLECTION PAPER

Last Friday at May 13, 2022 we had a Webinar Called Introduction to BIM with Ar.
Glenn Magistrado as our Keynote Speaker. Architect Magistrado talked out and introduced his
expertise on Building Information Modeling (BIM). He Spoke about the history of Autocad. The
original software was developed by Charles River Software, founded in 1997, renamed Revit
Technology Corporation in 2000, and acquired by Autodesk in 2002. The Revit program evolved
over time as well. It was difficult for them to adjust to the Revit program since they were all used
to AutoCAD and having thoughts of utilizing Revit brings off reluctance and comparison that
manual drafting is still much favored than digital drawings.

The comparison of Traditional and Modern techniques is also tackled, how Manual
Drafting is still important to be learned and is preferred by Senior Architects but Digital Drafting
is known to have help save time for the Architects in their work load. It also helps to reduce the
workload for drawing revisions, whether small or significant.

The differences of BIM and Autocad is also tackled. BIM is the general process of
developing a three-dimensional database in the form of a model of information pertaining to
building design and is mostly used for data creation and management during the design, building,
and operating stages while CAD has traditionally been used in the construction industry for the
creation of two-dimensional designs, it basically replaces the traditional hand drafting processes
with an automated one.

At the moment I am more of a Autocad User for the reason that it is the main application
used at our subjects although I am hoping to use BIM more in the future. No matter what the
differences and comparisons of the two architectural application I expect that CAD and BIM will
continue to coexist in the future, with additional advances occurring as the construction industry
gets more advanced and specialized.
