The Imago Mundi is the oldest known map


and was made by the Babylonians around
700 to 500 BC.

Ptolemy's Geographia
Ptolemy explained map projections and the
system of latitude and longitude. Written
around AD 150, it contained places in
Europe, Asia, and Africa.

The Mercator Projection


Mercator's map projection was introduced
in 1569. It is cylindrical and derived through
mathematical means. It was widely used by
sea-navigators.

Modern Day Maps

Modern-day maps are based on satellite


images, making the size, shape and distance
more accurate and reliable.
