Watch this: Video on Rainforests
Virtual Field Trip: Rainforest in 360°

Climate:
- Temperature: Cold / Temperate / Hot
- Precipitation: Low / Medium / High
Threats to these Ecosystems: Deforestation,Climate change,mining
Types of Plants: Ferns, lichens, mosses, orchids, and bromeliads

Plant Adaptations for this Biome (2):

-Buttress roots:large roots have ridges that make it have a large surface area.
-Drip tips: tips that drip liquid on them to the ground for nutrients.

Types of Animals: Mammals such as sloths, tapirs, jaguars, tigers, howler monkeys, spider
monkeys and orangutans

Animal Adaptations for this Biome (2):

-Terminate Nest: Ants that lives inside of the nest and is studied by multiple scientists
-Monkey: This allowed them to live freely in the trees and make scary voices.

Temperate Rainforest: coniferous or broadleaf forests that occur in the

temperate zone and receive heavy rain
Watch this: Video on Temperate Rainforests

Climate:
- Temperature: Cold / Temperate / Hot
- Precipitation: Low / Medium / High
- Seasons: Winter and summer
How does this compare to Rainforests: Temperate rainforest is much closer than rainforest and it
has 2 season which are summer and winter,but rainforest don’t have season.

Threats to these Ecosystems:

Types of Plants: Mosses, spike mosses, ferns and lichens,etc.

Plant Adaptations for this Biome(2):

-Mosses and fern- they grow atop in other plants to reach the light
-The trees can grow very tall because of precipitation
Types of Animals: Raccoon, bobcat, mountain lion, mountain beaver, Monkey, Pacific giant
salamander, shrews, Black bear, and great horned owls

Animal Adaptations for this Biome(2):

-Black bear:spend the entire winter hibernating because they don’t have much energy.
-Monkey: strong and long ;imbs to climb the trees.

Desert: arid land with usually sparse vegetation

Watch this: Video on Deserts
Virtual Field Trip: Desert in 360°
Desert Canyons: 360° Video
Sahara Desert: 360° Video (Warning Jumpy)
Climate:
- Temperature: Cold / Temperate / Hot
- Precipitation: Low / Medium / High
- Temperature at Night: 24.98F
Desertification: When a productive land turns it into non-productive land.

Types of Plants: Succulents, desert trees, grasses, cactus,etc.

Plant Adaptations for this Biome(2):

-Cactus:Thick and loses water and reflect heat, deep roots to tap underground water
Types of Animals: Lizards,scorpion,coyotes,rattlesnake,etc.

Animal Adaptations for this Biome(2):

-Some animals hunt when it cool temperatures and less risk
-Some animals get all of the water they need from insect and seeds that they eat but they won’t
drink.

Shrubland (Chaparral) :a temperate biome, characterized by hot-dry summers

and mild and rainy winters
Watch this: Video on Shrublands

Climate of the Temperate Rainforest:

- Temperature: Cold / Temperate / Hot
- Precipitation: Low / Medium / High
- Seasons: Winter and summer

Threats to these Ecosystems: Agriculture,Biodiversity,livestock,human activities

Types of Plants: Dogwood,alder,viburnum,pincherry,etc.

Plant Adaptations for this Biome(2):
-loss of water
-to avoid losing quantities of water.

Types of Animals: musk-shrews,rabbits, jackals.,aardwolves.,duikers, bontebok antelope.

Animal Adaptations for this Biome(2):

-When it is winter the animal produces their layer by insulting their feathers or fur to make them
warm.
-Small reptiles don’t need to drink water
Savanna: Type of biome with large stretches of grasslands mixed with trees
and shrubs
Virtual Field Trip!: Savanna in 360°
Video on the Savanna: Savanna Video

Climate of the Temperate Rainforest:

- Temperature: Cold / Temperate / Hot
- Precipitation: Low / Medium / High
- Seasons: Winter and summer

Types of Plants: Dotted trees,shrubs,acacia trees,baobab trees,etc.

Plant Adaptations for this Biome (2):

-Most plants are drought tolerant.
-Uses trunk as water storages

Types of Animals: Lion,Zebra,Elephants,Hyena,Giraffes,etc.

Animal Adaptations for this Biome (2):

-Shortage of water/food
-Hibernating until the season over
-They use camouflage to protect themselves from predator.
Grassland: An area in which there are vegetarians that is dominated by the
grass.
Watch this: Video on Grasslands

Climate of the Temperate Rainforest:

- Temperature: Cold / Temperate / Hot
- Precipitation: Low / Medium / High
- Seasons: Winter and Summer

How does this compare to Savanna?

-Savana is open grass with a landscape where there are trees scattered throughout the land.
Grasslands are also controlled by grass as well but the climate doesn’t support woody trees.

Threats to these Ecosystems:

Types of Plants: Grasses,Sunflowers,buffalo grass,Elephant grass,etc.

Plant Adaptations for this Biome(2):

-grass grow at the base of plants
-it help them to survive when it is hot and dry
Types of Animals:Mammals animals-Zebra,buffalo,Elephant,etc.

Animal Adaptations for this Biome(2):

-It helps them to hide in the trees
-Some gazelles and cattle are similar as the grass and it helps the surrounding wide-open.

Temperate Forest: A type of high levels precipitation,humidity and deciduous

Watch this: 360° Video on Temperate Forests
Virtual Field Trip: Temperate Forest 360°
Make sure to explore in each of the seasons!
Climate of the Temperate Rainforest:
- Temperature: Cold / Temperate / Hot
- Precipitation: Low / Medium / High
- Seasons:Winter,Spring,Summer and fall
Types of Plants: Oak,Maples,beech,elm,etc.

Plant Adaptations for this Biome(2):

-Season plants help them to survive in the winter
-trees have thick bark

Types of Animals: Raccoon,black bear,deer,wolf,etc.

Animal Adaptations for this Biome(2):

-most animals live in near the ground
-hibernation and migration

Taiga: A cold area of forest

Watch this: Video about the Taiga
Watch this: Protecting the Boreal
Climate:
- Temperature: Cold / Temperate / Hot
- Precipitation: Low / Medium / High
- Seasons: Summer and Winter

Threats to these Ecosystems: Deforestation and cutting down trees

Types of Plants: Pine, Fir,spruce,etc.

Plant Adaptations for this Biome(2):

-The dark of plants help them to attract the sun
-The needles prevent from evaporation

Types of Animals: Birds,moose,wolf,etc.

Animal Adaptations for this Biome(2):

-Some animals hibernate when the temperature go down
-they use their feather to protect themselves

Tundra: The coldest and harsh biome in the world

Watch This: Video about Tundras
Watch the Aurora Borealis: 360° Video

Climate:
- Temperature: Cold / Temperate / Hot
- Precipitation: Low / Medium / High
- Seasons: Summer and Winter

Threats to these Ecosystems: Gas,oil,mining

Types of Plants:Arctic Moss, Arctic Willow, Caribou Moss, Labrador Tea, Arctic Poppy, Cotton
Grass, Lichens and Moss

Plant Adaptations for this Biome:

-Low growing plants
-Some of plants protect from a very strong winds and from cold temperatures

Types of Animals: Herbivorous mammals: lemmings, voles, caribou, arctic hares and squirrels

Animal Adaptations for this Biome:

-they need shelter to stay warm
-Some animals have thick,warm feather and fur
Map of all of the Biomes

Polar Ice Caps:

Watch this: 360° Video of Antarctica!

This isn’t one of our official Biomes, but no plants grow here. How does that differ from the
Tundra?
It differs from Tundra because polar ice caps are surrounded by a lot of ice which represent the
arctic oceans and arctic poles. Tundra are cold climates but less plantation land.
