APPLICATION
CRISTOL-DPDP is an organo phosphite which functions as a auxiliary stabilizer for both
flexible and rigid PVC. Consequently, CRISTOL-DPDP should always be used in combination
with a primary heat stabilizer such as soaps of barium, zinc, cadmium, lead etc. The use of
CRISTOL-DPDP with these metal stabilizers results in an improvement in both heat and light
stability. Better clarity is also achieved. Inclusion of an epoxy with further improve heat and
light stability, but CRISTOL-DPDP is necessary to obtains optimum stability.
CRISTOL-DPDP reacts with principally by chelation of the metallic chlorides formed by the
interaction of the primary metal stabilizer and hydrogen chloride liberated during the mild
decomposition of PVC during compounding, fabrication and end use.
Without CRISTOL-DPDP the metal chloride will catalyze the decomposition of this polymer
thus reducing the stability. CRISTOL-DPDP complexes these metal chlorides preventing them
from affecting the stability of the polymer in an adverse manner.
CRISTOL-DPDP is recommended for use in both flexible and regid PVC formulations at levels
ranging from 0.20 to 3.0 parts / hundred of resin.
