Take note:
In line with accepted concept of civilian supremacy
over the military, and as provided for the National
Defense Act, the President of the Philippines is the
Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces. Under the
President is the Secretary of National Defense who
exercises supervision and control over the Armed
Forces of the Philippines. It is charged with the duty
of supervising the National Defense Program of the
country.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines
• is composed of Regular Force and Reserve
Force. The Regular Force consists of the
regular force, enlisted personnel, NCOs
(Non-Commissioned Officers) who are
normally active in duty.
Military Organization
A group of men or units are grouped together to
perform military functions with responsibilities
assigned to each individual.
Principles of Organization
✔ Unity of Control - there is only one leader at each level
of command and each unit is controlled by only one
individual while accomplishing its mission.
✔ Span of Control - there is a limit in the number of
individuals that a supervisor can control effectively.
✔ Homogeneous Assignment - personnel and
equipment, which serve the same purpose in a mission
are grouped together.
✔ Delegation of Authority - this inserts that the
commander responsible for the outcome of an
operation has adequate authority over the individual
engage in the operation.

Chain of command
Commander in Chief:
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Romualdez Marcos
• Executive Officer (Ex-O)- second in command. He is the assistant and adviser of the
commander. He directs and supervises the activities of the unit and the staff. He
assumes command in the absence of the Commander.
• Personnel and Adjutant ( S-1)- he is the administrative and personnel. He has dual
responsibilities namely, as Adjutant (Administrative) and S-1(Personnel Activities). He is
responsible for keeping and maintenance of orders.
• Intelligence Officer ( S-2) – he is the one responsible for matters pertaining to military
intelligence and counter intelligence. Informs the commander and all other concerned of
enemy situation. Capabilities and course of action. He is the so-called “Eye of the
Battalion”.
• Operations, Training and Planning Officer (S-3)- he is the one in charge on matters
relating to organization training and primary mission operations. He plans, coordinates,
and supervise the activity of the unit.
• Logistics and Supply Officer (S-4) – he is the one responsible for issuing the much
needed supplies in the battalion. He also takes charge of transportation evacuation and
hospitalization within the battalion.
• Organization of the Battalion- the Battalion is composed of the Headquarters and
Headquarters Service Company and 4 Rifle Companies.
