WHAT EVERY CHRISTIAN OUGHT TO KNOW

(based on the book with that title, written by Adrian Rogers)

LESSON 1 Introduction – What you don’t know can hurt you!

Goal of class – to help you to learn and be able to explain and defend our core beliefs

Religious view most popular today – pluralism

“Values” candidates for political office – Whose values?

Result – “morality by majority”

1 Timothy 2:1-4

What does God desire?

1. For all men to be saved (but not everyone will be saved, only those
who believe – John 3:15-18)

2. For all men to know the truth – After you are saved, you must grow
in truth. Why? 1 Timothy 1: 3,4
So you will not be led astray
Very important Scripture – Ephesians 4:14-15
(Our instructions as individual believers and as a church)

2 points:
1. Huge problem today – internet provides many
Choices to pick and choose

2. “Children” – new believers

(immature, vulnerable, easily misled)

So…how to “grow” these vulnerable children? Speak the truth to them in love.
Proverbs 23:23 (Words of King Solomon)

What does this say about truth?

1. Truth must be prized.

It is valuable. Impossible to be joyous, victorious Christian without
firm conviction based on foundational truth.

2. Truth must be purchased.

Salvation is free to believer. Cannot be earned. Quest for truth is
Costly. Requires time, discipline, obedience but IT IS WORTH IT!

3. Truth must be preserved.

Don’t sell it! Keep it. Never let go. You will be tempted to “sell out”.
Satan will not let up.

Very important concluding point –

John 14: 15-18

As we study truths of our faith, we must rely on more than our
minds and logic. Christ has provided the Holy Spirit to lead us
to the truth.

1 Corinthians 2:13

2 Peter 1:21

John 16: 12-15

Spirit of Truth will guide us into all truth, not force us.
So we must follow, surrender.

SO… WE MUST SURRENDER OUR HEARTS AND MINDS TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
IN THIS STUDY, AND STUDY WITH A HUMBLE HEART, NOT RELYING ON
OUR OWN MINDS AND LOGIC TO ACCEPT THE TRUTH.
