Introduction
This document outlines the procedures to convert a MAINTelligence 4.1, or MAINTelligence 4.2
to MAINTelligence Version 4.2 SP1. Your build number of MAINTelligence must be equal to or
a more recent build of MAINTelligence than listed below. You can locate your current
MAINTelligence build number by opening the About MAINTelligence dialog by selecting the
About MAINTelligence item from the Help menu.

MAINTelligence 4.1
Build: 1700 or later
Database Version: 837 to 841

MAINTelligence 4.2
Build: 1810 or later
Database Version: 856

If you’re current version of MAINTelligence is older than those listed above, you must first
upgrade your Version 4.1, 4.2 MAINTelligence to the specified builds. The conversion will not
work with builds and databases earlier than the ones listed.

The conversion program attempts to convert the reports from the previous version to Version
4.2 SP1. When the conversion is complete a conversion log file called conversion.log is created
in the target Version 4.2 SP1 database folder. The conversion log contains the conversion
results and also contains a list of reports that were automatically converted and those which
could not be converted.

Converting from MAINTelligence V4.1

Overview
With the advent of large user databases the conversion process can be optionally divided into
two steps. Step 1 will convert your database structure and provide an option of selecting how
many point readings to convert. Since the majority of time during a conversion is spent
converting the point readings, this option provides a way for a database to be quickly converted
and to continue plant operations. The option to select how many point readings are to be
converted also allows purging of old or unneeded data. It is recommended that a minimal
number of readings be converted (i.e. the last 5 or 10 readings) to allow statuses to be
calculated. It should be noted that all baseline readings and any reading associated with a
Condition Assessment is automatically converted.

You can still convert your database in one pass by selecting the option to convert all readings,
but if you decide to take the 2-step approach there is another conversion program, called
Reading Data Conversion, that will convert only point readings. The initial conversion must be
done before the Reading Data Conversion program can be run. You do not have to run the
Reading Data Conversion immediately after performing the initial conversion. It can be run any
time that is convenient (for example over a weekend).

You may have the question, “Do I have to take a two step approach?” The answer lies in the
number of Points and Readings in your database. If your database has very little readings but
lots of points then you can convert your entire database in one pass. However if you have
many readings and collect large amounts of data, even if you do not have many points you
should consider the 2-step approach.

The table below are approximate times need to convert an entire database in 1 pass. This will
help you decide your approach. Conversion Times are in hours.

Number of 10 Readings 25 Readings 50 Readings 100 200

Critical Notes
1. If your data resides on a network server, the conversion programs must be run on the
Server.
2. Backup your existing database.
3. Ensure that you have enough disk space to convert your database. We recommend that the
amount of free space should be at least three (2x) times the size of your Version 4.1
database.
4. Both V4.1 and V4.2 SP1 are named databases. If your source and target databases reside
in the same server or workstation or virtual computer, they cannot have the same database
name.
5. After conversion, new readings should not be added to source database any more because
adding new readings involves changes in the source database which can not be moved to
target database by ReadingDataCon program.

Converting the Database

Please ensure that you have read the Overview and Critical Notes sections before continuing.
The following are the steps required to convert the database.

At any time before you press the Convert button you can go back and change any of your
selections.

A. Starting the Conversion Program

1. Run the Database Conversion program found in your MAINTelligence group or execute
DatabaseCon2000.exe found in the applications folder. The main window will appear.

B. Select the Source Database

1. Select the MAINTelligence Version 4.1 database by clicking the … (ellipses) button
next to the Source edit box to select the folder where the database resides.
2. Select the “Address.mkd” file for the source Version 4.1 database.

1. Click the … (ellipses) button in the Readings group next to the edit box. The Reading
Conversion Options dialog will appear. Select an option that best suits your needs. If
you select any option other than All and wish to convert all your readings you must later
run the Reading Data Conversion Program (see below)
• Last – Select to convert a specific number of readings starting from the most
recent reading.
• Readings from last – Select if you wish to convert a range of readings dating
back a specific time period starting from the current date.
• Readings from – Select if you wish to convert readings in a specific date range.
• All – Select if you wish to convert all readings for a point.

Converting Reading Data

Important - Please ensure that you have read the Overview and Critical Notes
sections for the MAINTelligence version you are converting from before
continuing.

If you have decided to perform the database conversion in 2-steps, the following are the steps
required to convert the remaining point reading data. It is required that the initial conversion
must be done before the Reading Data Conversion program can be run.

A. Starting the Reading Data Conversion Program

1. Run the Reading Data Conversion program by executing ReadingDataCon.exe found in
the applications folder.

B. Select the Source and Target Databases

1. Select the original MAINTelligence Version 4.1, or 4.2 database directory by clicking the
… (ellipses) button in the Source Database box. This must be the same version
database that was initially converted.
2. Select the original Address.mdk file for Version 4.1 or 4.2.
3. Select the Location in which the Version 4.2 SP1 database was initially converted. Click
the … (ellipses) button in the Target Database box.

databases are valid. This may take a few minutes. The Reading Conversion Options
dialog will appear.

Select an option that best suits your needs.

• Last – Select if you wish to convert a specific number of readings. The most
recent reading is numbered with the value of one. An example: There are 25
readings in a point and the initial database conversion, converted the 10 most
recent readings. A person wishes to convert all but the 5 oldest readings. The
values you would enter are 11 to 20.
• Readings from last – Select if you wish to convert a range of readings dating
back a specific time period starting from the current date.
• Readings from – Select if you wish to convert readings in a specific date range.
• All – Select if you wish to convert all readings for a point.

2. After you have made your selection press the OK button to begin the conversion. If you
press Cancel, the Reading Conversion Options dialog will close and you will be returned
to the main window

D. Converting the Database

1. A progress bar and text will be displayed as the conversion takes place. When the
conversion is complete a dialog box will appear indicating that the conversion was
successful.
2. Click Close to end the program.
