Plot

Exposition
There was a King who believed that he would become a great ruler to his Kingdom if
he knew all the answers for his three essential questions. The questions are what is the right
time for every action, who is the right people to be with and what the most important thing to
do is. If he knew all the answers for those three questions, he can rule his kingdom in a great
way. He promised to reward anyone that can answers all his questions that he longs to get
the answers.
Rising Action
After hearing the news from the King, a lot of learned men came to try their luck by
answering all the questions. However none of the answers given satisfied the King. So he
decided to consult a hermit who was well known for his wise and brilliant ideas. When he
went to visit the hermit, he saw the hermit was digging the ground. The King pitied the hermit
and asked for the spade for him to dig the ground so that the old hermit can have a rest.
When digging the ground, the King did ask those questions to the hermit however he does
not reply anything and instead he kept silent.
Climax
As the King was digging, it was already sunset. Out of the blue, they saw a bearded
man came running with his hand on his stomach. He was wounded badly and dying. Then,
both of them help the man and treated him nicely.
Falling Action
On the next day, when the King woke up at the hermit’s hut, he saw the wounded
man crying and asking for forgiveness towards him. He said that he was an enemy to the
King and when he heard about the King was going to the hermit, he attempt to kill him on his
way back home but he failed to do so because of the bodyguards that recognized him and
hurt him. The bearded man promised to the King to become a loyal slave as the return for
the King saved his life.
Resolution
Before the King left the hermit’s hut, he asked once again about those three
questions to the hermit. The hermit said that the King actually get the answer that he was
seeking for by himself. He said that the right time for every action is now because it is the
only time we have power. Then he said that the right people to be with is the people that we
have at that time. Lastly, the hermit said that the most important thing to do is to do good for
the person you are with that time.
Theme
The main theme of for this story is wisdom. Hints of wisdom can be found throughout
the story where the King longs to get the answer to his three questions which can make him
become a great ruler. To run his kingdom better, he needs to seek wisdom from others. A lot
of people tried their luck to answer the King’s questions, because of the reward that he
offered, however, all their answers did not satisfied the King. Fortunately, the King finally
gets the answer for his questions from the hermit who is well-known for his wisdom. The fact
that the King still need to seek for the hermit’s wisdom even though a lot of intelligent people
tried to answer the questions shows that he eager to know those answers. He even
disguised himself as a simple folk and leave his knights behind because the hermit does not
like the way rich people live their lives. He also help the hermit to dig the ground and help a
wounded man. Finally before he leaves the hermit, the King gets the answer for his three
questions that satisfied him the most.
