“The Road Not Taken”

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference

Punong sanhi ng hiwalay na lansangan.
At patawad, ngunit di kayang parehong
tahakin.
Sa pag-iisa, sinuri hanggat kaya.
Ang kinang ng luntian.
Tinahak ang isa sapagkat sila’y
magkawangis.
At marahil ito’y higit na mabuti.
Daang ningning ng damo ay sanhi ng di
sapat na paglalakbay.
Subalit sa dulo ng lakbay,
Pudpod ng tulad.
Bungad ng isang umaga na kapwa ay,
Puno ng mga dahong,
Walang bakas ng yapak.
Ang ibayo’y tatahakin sa tamang ibang
panahon.
Nang alam ang dulo.
Duda kung ito ba’y dapat pang lakbayin.
Aking pabuntong hiningang sambit.
Sa kinabukasan –

Aking nilakbay ang makalawa.
At, naiba, lahat, aking hinaharap..
The first time I read the poem, I could
not think of a method of translation
that best fits in to retain its meaning. It
cost me a lot of time thinking and
searching for words I should use. I asked
my sister's help since she's an English
licensed teacher and I think that she'll
be able to help me because she's good
in both languages. When I made my
first draft, she rejected it because it
wasn't sound like a poem and she gave
me some advice. It was really hard for
me to translate a whole poem; I need to
read it over and over to understand it as
well as to feel it so that after reading
the translated one, I would know what
is wrong including the elements of a
poem I used.
