1. Aquaculture - Aquaculture, also known as fish
farming or seafood farming, is the
construction of various systems by
humans to produce seafood for
human consumption on a large scale.
2. Invasive species  - Invasive species are animals or
plants that come from another part of
the world and do not belong in their
current home. They can be
introduced into an environment by
ship ballast water, unintentional
release, and, most commonly, by
humans.
3. By catch - By catch in simple terms is the
capture of animals that are not part of
the targeted or desired catch. It may
include small individuals of the target
species or other species with little or
no commercial value.
4. Habitat destruction - Marine habitat destruction and loss

- Viruses and parasites that transfer
between farmed and wild species as well
as among farmed species present a risk
to wild populations or other farms.
- Invasive species can have several
negative impacts on the areas that they
invade. Perhaps the most significant of
these is the widespread loss of habitat. It
can cause environmental harm, economic
harm, or impact human health.

the problem is made worse by economic
pressures resulting from
overexploitation. This leads to inefficient
use of resources and changes in the
abundance of both target and non-target

- It's not shocking that tourism is big
business. Pristine sandy beaches,
beautiful resorts, and a variety of
activities are all within your reach.
All is very appealing. When there is a
strong enough demand, people begin
to build. They clear land for larger
beaches, as well as build hotels,
resorts, and airports. These are
referred to collectively as coastal
developments.
- Point-source pollution is easy to
identify. As the name suggests, it
comes from a single place. The main
point source dischargers are factories
and sewage treatment plants, which
release treated wastewater.
- Nonpoint-source pollution is harder
to identify and harder to address. It is
pollution that comes from many
places, all at once. Nonpoint source
pollution is a combination of
pollutants from a large area rather
than from specific identifiable
sources such as discharge pipes.

natural habitat is encroached on or even

- The most serious and well-documented
problem with coastal development is the
destruction of coral reefs. Many human-
caused activities, including climate
change and ocean acidification,
endangered coral reefs. However, coastal
growth has intensified and accelerated
their demise. Humans have cleared
mangrove forests and seagrass to make
more beaches, constructed piers and
other structures over reefs, and damaged
turtle nesting sites.
- The point source usually comes from
the run-off such as “septic tanks, cars,
trucks, and boats, plus larger sources,
such as farms, livestock ranches, and
timber harvest areas. This source harms
the economy, especially in cities that are
located along the coast. The run-off
causing pollution of water and die-off
fish can have a financial loss for
investors and workers.
- Chemicals that end up on roads and
highways flow over and under the
ground with rainwater, as do pesticides;
fertilizers; and carbon-, nitrogen-, and
phosphorous-rich particulates, eventually
reaching the ocean. These travel through
rivers and estuaries, making soil a real
threat to marine ecosystems. Runoff can
even smother marine plants and coral
reefs.
