Pledge to the Bible

I pledge allegiance to the Bible, God’s holy Word. I will make it a lamp unto my feet and a light
unto my path. I will hide its words in my heart that I might not sin against God.
Nun Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Psalms 119,105
Psa 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. `

It is important that we listen to God and His words. This way, not only can He help guide our
lives but also teach us about Himself through the scriptures.

Jesus reminds us in John 17:17 that it is God’s word is truth.

Joh 17:17 "Sanctify37 them in the truth225 ; Your word3056 is truth225 .

You will Learn to Fear the Lord

Fear of the Lord is the beginning of all understanding. Fearing the Lord is not a fear of fright
but a reverence to God. It is a beautiful attribute for anyone.

Deu 17:19 "It shall be with him and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn
to fear the LORD his God, by carefully observing all the words of this law and these
statutes,

You will Mature in the Things of God

Learning more about Him and his commands will help us mature as believers. While this is
similar to the one above, it is distinctly different. One of the benefits of reading scripture is
that we mature as we grow in fellowship with Him and learn His commands. We become
better equipped at reacting and find peace in the midst of chaos and strife.

Heb 5:13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of
righteousness, for he is an infant.
Heb 5:14 But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to
discern good and evil.

It will Rebuke Us, helping us to expose ourselves for what we really are
Heb 4:12
(NLT) For the word of God is full of living power. It is sharper than the sharpest knife, cutting
deep into our innermost thoughts and desires. It exposes us for what we really are.

(NIV) For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it
penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and
attitudes of the heart.

(NASB) For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and
piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to
judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

You will Develop Spiritually

One of the spiritual disciplines and a sign of spiritual maturity is daily time reading and
studying God’s Word. As you learn more about His character, His promises and His plan for
salvation of mankind, you will grow in your spiritual maturity.

“and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” Ephesians
6:17 (ESV)
You may hear the voice of God. Hearing God, in his own voice while reading scripture helps us
to discern when He is speaking with us at other times. He communicates with us many ways,
especially in scripture.

“For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural
face in a mirror.” JAMES 1:23 (ESV)

Jas 1:23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks
at his face in a mirror (NIV)

(NLT) For if you just listen and don't obey, it is like looking at your face in a mirror but doing
nothing to improve your appearance.

The Bible Gives Us Hope

How can you not feel hope when you read the Bible and see how God has won battles, saved
lives and see His love written out in the pages of scripture?  We have hope in God and His son
and one of the benefits of reading the Bible is to gain hope from Him and His Word. To me,
this has become one of the most important benefits of reading the Bible.

“For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance
and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” ROMANS 15:4 (ESV)

Rom 15:4 Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. They give us hope
and encouragement as we wait patiently for God's promises.

God’s Instructions for Life Are Housed in His Word.

How we treat others. How we should act or react in situations. It’s all in there. When we
should rest, how to pray and fast. How to deal with those who have hurt you. Nearly any
situation that you face, you will find instructions on how to respond.

Whoever gives thought to the word will discover good,

and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord. PROVERBS 16:20 (ESV)

Those who listen to instruction will prosper; those who trust the LORD will be happy.
(NLT)

God’s Word Leads us to Salvation.

It is written in His word that we are saved when we put our hope in Him. Even if you are
already a believer, rereading the words reminds us that He gave His only son for us to live in
Him.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish
but have eternal life.
John 3:16 (ESV)

Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not
perish but have eternal life.
