Expected roles (functions) of a teacher in a student-centered class?

If we ask non-teachers what a teacher functions in the classroom, they may

answer teachers’ jobs are standing at the front of a class, explaining concepts, giving
instructions, and managing tasks. Those are not wrong answers. They are not
teachers. Those answers are large parts of teachers’ job: leading, directing,
supporting our learners. But it’s only the tip of the iceberg, there’s a lot more going
on under the surface.
Nowadays, teachers’ main role (function) is being a learning facilitator. It
is shifting from instructing to constructing. A facilitator is a person who helps a
group of people to work together in a better way, understand their common
objectives, and plan how to achieve these objectives during meetings or discussions.
In doing so, the facilitator remains neutral, meaning he/she doesn’t take a particular
position in the discussion. That’s why teachers now must promote collaborative
learning in their classroom. One direct teaching is not relevant (ineffective) to
achieve learning goals. One reason student outcomes improve when students
engage in cooperative learning is that they are purposefully working together to
accomplish an academic task using their social and personal competencies. Students
learn to work with peers in meaningful ways and hold each other accountable for
learning.
Teachers must create classroom activities as group work. When students are
given regular opportunities to work together, they can develop effective
collaborative learning skills. By working in collaborative teams, students can:
communicate and compare their ideas with one another; build on one another’s
ideas; discuss and debate their ideas; revise and rethink their reasoning; and present
their team's understanding through multi-modal representations.
To sum up, teachers’ main role in a student-centered classroom are
planning the lessons, monitoring the class, evaluating the learning process, and
giving feedbacks to the students.
