DOF warns public of online scams using names of public

officials, business leaders

BE VIGILANT! The Department of Finance (DOF) reiterates its warning against false information
using the names of public officials and business leaders to scam the public into believing that they
are endorsing financial products.

Advertisements using the names of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Senator Manny Pacquiao,
Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III, and former Senate President Manny Villar supposedly
promoting cryptocurrency and get-rich-quick schemes have proliferated on social media and
advertisements on news websites.

According to the DOF, none of these schemes are legitimate.

The DOF urges the public to stay cautious and avoid providing any personal information to these
scammers. The Department is working with the anti-cybercrime authorities and other relevant law
enforcement agencies to track down and prosecute those behind such schemes. The government is
also in contact with social media and online ad companies to track and take down fake posts.

For malicious messages, lodge reports to the NBI Anti-Fraud Division at (02) 8525-4093 or e-mail
at afad@nbi.gov.ph. You may also send a message through the NBI's website at www.nbi.gov.ph or
their official Facebook account. You may also report these incidents to the PNP Anti-Crime Group
(PNP-ACG) through www.pnpacg.ph or hotline number at (02) 8723-0401 local 5313.

The DOF has also opened its online channels for netizens to report any posts, advertisements, and
