Escalator Monthly

Maintenance Guide

1. Secure the maintenance
barricade
 Place the Barricade to the bottom and upper portion of the unit for
safety reasons.
Make sure that it is properly placed
 2. Run the unit continuously .
 Then, Observe the unit if there’s something unusual like vibration and noise.
Open the top machine room by unscrewing the left and right bolts.
* Lift the landing plate to open the machine room.

CONTROL PANEL
Push the maintenance safety switch button downward at the top of
control panel to cut – off power supply for safety reason.

Remove control panel
Clean the control panel
Then open the panel, check and retighten all the screws
and bolts on the terminal block.
3. Remove the capping screw bolt
( Left and Right Capping )
Then, remove capping/inner deck ( left and Right )
Put it at the safe place,( near at working area )
 4. Remove 3 to 4 pieces step assemblies.
 Place dismantled step assemblies near the
working area in a safe location
5. Cleaning and checking of rails # 1,2,3
* Cleaning of rail left and right
6. Checking of jackshaft bearing ( pillow block ) and its lubrications.

* Checking of axle rubber bushing.

* Cleaning and checking of combfingers

7. Cleaning of machine room and oil pan
Checking of motor assembly

Cleaning and checking of motor break

Open the motor brake cover


Then, Clean and check motor break
Check and adjust if necessary ( brake disc ass’y.)

5. Open the bottom machine room
Then, remove the oil and dirt deposit at the oil pan

Inspect axle chain tension and turn around assembly

 * Inspect all rail tracks and observe condition.

* Inspect adjusting track and replace if worn – out.

8. Inspect safety switches

9. Lubrication of chain and sprockets ( step chain drive, handrail drive chain,
handrail jackshaft. )

Lubrication of chain # 80 (hand rail drive chain)
 * Inspect handrail drive assemblies and roller sprocket and chain for wear.
 * Inspect all chains and sprockets for wearing and lubrications.
 10. Re-installation of dismantled step assemblies to its original axle
shaft.
Final inspection

 11. To check the operation of the escalator :


 Turn on the mainline circuit breaker.

 Run the escalator intermittently in one direction to

make it run smoothly.


 Run the escalator on automatic and listen for unusual

noise and vibration.


 If the escalator continues runs smoothly. Return the

capping and place it back in service.


Check the running condition
Inspect the alignment of comb plate
Check Installed capping (inner deck)
Important Reminders :

 Make sure the unit is in good running condition before leaving the area
 If any parts were found defective or subject for replacement discuss it to the
personnel in charge
 Secure copy of service report with remarks or concern regarding defective
parts or any abnormality on the unit.
 Finally, discuss to the client or personnel in charge regarding the Escalator
running condition.
