Learning Competency no 5 : Identify the subjects of inquiry and goals of Anthropology and Sociology;

I. Objectives: at the end of the lesson , students are expected to:

a. Identify the subjects of goals of Anthropology and Sociology;

III. Procedure: 4 A’S
A. Preliminary Activities:
a. Prayer and etc.

Activity: PICTURE Analysis

1. The teacher will show 2 pictures of the society (past and present).

Process Questions:

a. Describe the pictures.

b. Are they the same?
c. What makes them different?
d. What do you think are the reasons that brought about such changes?
e. How do anthropology and sociology help us in understanding and dealing with these changes?

PRESENTATION: GOALS OF ANTHRO. AND SOCIOLOGY

1. Review about the definition of anthro and socio

2. Using the dictionary (told yesterday to bring) find the meaning of the difficult words or terms
used in the topic. The teacher will flash the card and post in the board and students are asked
to find the meaning in one minute. (Game name: A minute to Win it)

DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITY:

a. The students will be grouped into four and will be given articles to read about sociology and
anthropology and will be asked to draw at least three goals of the said branches of social sciences
using the web below.

b. Group discussion for 3 minutes and followed by reporting.

Abstraction:

1. What are the goals of sociology?

2. What are the goals of anthropology?
3. How are they related?
4. How do these goals help us in understanding the changes happening in our society?

“The main goal of sociology is to help us understand and to adjust to the changes happening in
the environment and to overcome some social problems while Anthropology helps us in
understanding and explaining human variation of the observed similarities and differences in
people through time and across space.”

Application/ Evaluation:

1. Give one social issue in the Philippine context and explain how the goals of anthropology and
sociology can explain this/these issue/issues.
e.g. ways of healing
-Diseases in the past were believed to be caused by supernatural elements forcing people do rituals
and pray for some divine and supernatural interventions. As a result, they have developed a close
relationship with the nature (Anthropology) However, because of the development of science and
technology across time and space, people have learned to develop some scientifically-tested
medicines that altered these beliefs thus resulted to a change in their ways of healing and living in
the society (sociology).
