Last Sunday, my mother woke me up at the early morning. It was half past six. She
asked me to do gardening together since we just moved to our new house. Here, we had a
yard in front of our house with banana and guava trees.
Actually, I didn’t have interest to do so and I just wanted to be free since it was holiday.
My mother called my name again and again from the terrace. Hesitantly, I went outside of

Next, we were busy to harvest the bananas. It was my first time to do this. After that, I
watered some plants and pulled off the wild grass. I also picked the rubbish up off the
ground. Then, I realized the yard looked nicer and cleaner.

Because of its great architectural beauty and an important historical monument both
for Byzantine and Ottoman Empires, Hagia Sophia was choosen as a world heritage site
by UNESCO in 1985. Its function has changed several times in the centuries
The Hagia Sophia, whose name means Holy Wisdom, was constructed by the East
Roman Empire for the Greek Orthodox Christian Church in 360. When Constantinople
was occupied by Latins between 1204 and 1261, the church was adapted to be a Catholic
cathedral. After Sultan Mehmed’s conquer in 1453, Hagia Sophia was renovated into a
mosque. Eventually, the edifice was converted into a museum by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s
orders since 1935.
The building measures some 269 feet in length and 240 feet in width . It contains
two floors centered on a giant nave that has a great dome ceiling. An earthquake in 558
caused the Hagia Sophia's dome to collapse. It was rebuilt to a height of 182 feet,
along with smaller domes, in 562.
Originally, the interior decorations consisted of abstract designs as well as Christians
mosaics on the walls. However, Sultan Mehmed covered the mosaics with plaster instead
of destroying them. Eight massive medallions hung on columns in the nave which have
Arabic calligraphy. The Ottomans also added a mihrab, a minbar, and four enormous
minarets in order to complete the transition to a mosque. Later, several Ottoman mosques,

How to survive an asthma attack

Asthma needs constant care and proper management at all times. Should you suffer from
asthma attack, try these coping techniques:
1. Stop whatever you are doing and sit upright. Bending over or lying down can constrict
your breathing even more.
2. Take long, deep breaths to prevent hyperventilation. Breathe in through your nose
and breathe out through your mouth.
3. Stay calm to prevent further tightening of your chest muscles and make your
breathing easier.
4. Avoid the trigger such as dust, cigarette smoke or the smell of chemicals. Get away
from the trigger as soon as possible and go to an air-conditioned environment or any
place with clean air.
5. Take your quick-relief medication, as prescribed by your doctor. It is usually taken via
an inhaler to relax your airway muscles.
6. Take a hot caffeinated beverage. Hot caffeinated drinks like coffee can help to open
up the airways slightly, providing some relief for an hour or two.
7. Seek emergency medical help if the wheezing, coughing and breathing difficulty do
not subside after a period of rest.

25. What do we need to do before taking our medicine?

A blizzard is an extreme snowstorm followed by a very strong and constant wind which
last three hours or more. The difference between snowstorms and blizzards is in the power
of the wind. The speed of the wind that can cause a blizzard is about 35 mph. It causes wind
blowing and drifting snow. That condition can cause visibility decrease to 400 m.
Blizzard can form only if the warm air rises over the cold air. The wind brings cold air to
the Equator from the poles and brings warm air to poles. When warm air and cold air are
brought together, a front is formed and rainfall happens. Those are the main reasons why
blizzards are happening.
Blizzards can be very dangerous. Some of the blizzard winds can be as powerful and
some can be even more powerful than hurricanes. They can last up to five days with endless
snowing and wind blowing and can cause completely whiteout. A lot of falling snow reduces
the visibility. It can be a big problem in the area with a frequent traffic. For people, it is highly
recommended to stay in homes. Spending time in a blizzard, unprotected, or unprepared can
lead to a freezing to death, hypothermia and frostbites. These conditions require medical
intervention. The best way to prevent these problems is to stay locked up in the house.

Sawfly is a large group of widely distributed insects that are thought to be the most
primitive group within the order Hymenoptera.
Sawflies get their name from the saw-like ovipositor they have. They feed on pollen
and nectar, so they may be seen on flowers as well as their larval host plants. They are not
very active, making only short flights in sunny weather, and resting on leaves otherwise.
The superfamily consists of five families: Argidae, Pergidae, Cimbicidae, Diprionidae, and
Tenthredinidae.
Each species of sawfly has its own distinct appearance and habit. They change their
appearance as they develop. Although a few species of sawfly have larvae that resemble
slugs, most look like caterpillars. Sawfly larvae have three pairs of true leg, followed by
seven or eight pairs of fleshy, false legs. Caterpillars have fewer pairs of false legs that are
armed with tiny hooks. The adults of sawflies look like wasps, but do not sting.
The adults are short-lived, usually only a few days to a week, just long enough to
develop and lay eggs. The female sawfly uses its ovipositor to cut into the leaves or stems
to deposit her eggs scattered across the leaf surface, singly or in groups of 30-90 called
“rafts” or “pods”.

32. Sawflies are named for ….

B. how sawflies change
C. why sawflies differ from others

A. To get raft or pod to develop.
B. To help them deposit their eggs.
C. To cut the leaves and stems for food.
D. To make them easier to scatter their eggs.

35. “Each species of sawfly has its own distinct appearance and habit.” (Par. 3)

Fujio Masuoka was the inventor of flash memory. Joining the Toshiba, he also
developed Stacked-Gate Avalanche-Injection Metal–Oxide–Semiconductor (SAMOS)
memory. He developed the "floating gate" technology that could be erased much faster. The
results (with capacity of only 8192 bytes) were published in 1984, and became the basis
for flash memory technology of much larger capacities.
To create and produce pre-fabricated commercial 4 Mbit flash memory chips,
Masuoka required ¥10 million that the Toshiba was initially reluctant to invest. Masuoka
convinced Toshiba's consumer electronics research executives that 4 Mbit flash memory
chip can be used for consumer digital camera into the flash memory that serves as a "digital
film". With funding from the consumer electronics division, Masuoka continued to develop
and present flash 4 Mbit NAND-type flash memory at the Conference on Solid-State Circuits
(ISSCC) in New York City in 1989.
Toshiba gave Masuoka a small bonus for the invention but it was American
company Intel which made billions of dollars in sales on related technology. He became a
professor at Tohoku University in 1994. Masuoka received the 1997 Institute of Electrical and
Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Morris N. Liebmann Memorial Award of the institution. In 2005,
Masuoka became the chief technical officer of Unisantis Electronics aiming to develop a
three-dimensional transistor. In 2006, he settled a lawsuit with Toshiba for ¥87m (about
