WINDOWS VS MAC OS
Windows vs macOS: Hardware
Apple computers only use macOS. This means that it can only be used with computers like the
MacBook, iMac, Mac Mini, and Mac Pro. Windows, on the other hand, may be used on anything
from heavy workstations to the tiny Raspberry Pi. If it can perform calculations, it probably runs
Windows or can.
Additionally, Windows-based computers can be customized more than Apple-based ones. If you
can customize an Apple product at all, you have significantly more freedom to alter its CPU,
GPU, memory, and storage than you have with a PC. You have the option to choose a machine
that fits your budget because Windows is supported by more devices. Although Apple typically
produces high-quality hardware, some consumers may find the company's prices to be expensive.
Having said that, picking a laptop from the top Windows laptops can be difficult. Because
different vendors make different machines, even those with similar or identical specs may
operate differently. However, Apple produces its own hardware and software, making it easier to
choose the right machine for you.
Browser Safety
The default browser for Macs is called Safari, and it recently underwent changes to include more
dynamic ad-blockers. Your security may be jeopardized by undeclared tracking, uninvited pop-
ups, and ad blockers. Although third-party browsers like Firefox and Google Chrome rate higher
than Safari due to Safari's sluggish update cycle, Safari performs better than Microsoft Edge.
The native browser for Windows, Microsoft Edge, was introduced to take the role of Internet
Explorer to redeem itself after Internet Explorer's dismal reputation. Every week, security
updates are delivered as part of Windows' dynamic update cycle. Their user diagnostic reports
method, however, still has a lot to be desired.
Security Maintenance
Compared to Windows, the Apple OS requires less security maintenance. Due to the far low
percentage of threats on Macs, security maintenance is not as urgent. However, the main reason
for this is that there are fewer Mac computers in use globally. However, as the user base grows,
so does the threat surface. Because Macs are simpler to use and maintain, non-techies prefer to
utilize them. Mac dangers do exist, though, and users sometimes take security for granted, which
leaves them more exposed.
Both Mac OS and Windows OS come with built-in anti-malware programs, although Windows
OS need greater security attention than Mac OS. However, Windows users must exercise
extreme caution while updating their browsers, drivers, third-party antivirus programs, and other
system components.
Frequency of Updates
Compared to Windows, Mac OS has a slower track record of resolving cybersecurity
vulnerabilities. Since Macs are not as frequently targeted by hackers as Windows is, the Mac OS
update cycle does not require continual patching. The strongest security defense when utilizing
the Windows Operating System is being proactive. With fewer updates, the Mac OS updates
somewhat slowly. Windows, on the other hand, finds security updates faster and is more
proactive in releasing them. This is because Windows has seen many more attacks than it should
have, necessitating ongoing vigilance.
Threat Increase
The number of threats to Mac OS has significantly increased, and the majority of attacks take the
form of malware downloads. Cyber dangers are anticipated to increase more in the coming years
as malicious actors improve their skills at exploiting the Mac OS. Compared to Macs, Windows
PCs experience a slower growth in threats. However, this does not imply that the threat is less
present. Without the necessity for downloads like with Mac OS, Windows users are vulnerable to
threats that frequently take advantage of system flaws.
