SPEAKING PART 1: Birthday

Vocabulary highlights:

opening a new chapter in one’s journey.)
 We all like to think that milestone birthdays lead to exciting turning
points in our lives.
3. Throw a party = to have a party

5. A humble / all-night / fancy-dress party
6. Presents / gifts: handmade gifts, stuffed animals, flowers, accessories, cosmetic,
perfumes, gift vouchers, jewelry
7. Share the joyfulness with each other

9. Extinguish the candles, sing, and gossip together about everything.

I have to be dressed to the nines at this gala tonight—a lot of important people
will be there.
12. For the most part, every stage of a human’s life is destined for some specific
activities and purposes.
13. I can indulge (spoil) myself with a plethora of presents and gifts from my
beloved ones
1. Do you enjoy your birthdays?
 Well, frankly speaking, I used to love them a lot back in the day when I was a
little girl/boy. However, now I’m getting older and older they aren’t much fun
as they used to be. For me, they are just ordinary days like any other days of
the year.

2. What kinds of birthday gifts would you like to receive?


 I have a keen interest in getting presents that I can use – I mean things that are
handy and practical. It might be kind of boring / mundane / tedious /
monotonous , but I love some stuff like … and … (and) you name it because I
need those on a daily basis and I don’t want to go shopping for those things!
3. Is it important to celebrate one’s birthday? Why?
 Definitely yes, birthday celebration is of paramount importance / is a
fundamental part in our lives.
 A birthday is a momentous occasion, therefore, it is much more than an
occasion to receive gifts
 A birthday is a time to celebrate birth itself, the joy of life. It is also an
occasion to rethink your life like …
 It’s a memorable occasion to hold reunion with our family, friends and
relatives and share all ups and downs in our lives
 It's not compulsory to celebrate ones birthday.
 Celebrating does not always means splurging on parties

4. How birthdays of children are celebrated in your country?


 Children’s birthday is a grand banquet. Parents always throw a party and invite
many children’s friends and relatives.
 They also prepare a big birthday cake and some other tasty foods like
sandwiches, biscuits, fruit juice and you name it.
 The kid extinguishes the candles. Everyone plays some game and have fun
together
