LITERATURE REVIEW

Marcelo A.C. [1], This work presents an efficiency control strategy, based on fuzzy logic, for electric
vehicles with motors and CVT transmissions. Different to earlier proposals described in the
literature, this project developed a more precise system for optimization of the function describing
the maximum efficiency, for use as a reference for the fuzzy control system. He made a model and
simulated, we get an idea about our project objective.
G. Julio, J.-S. Plante [2], in this study, the experimental study is done by the research scholars; detail
study of rubber-belt continuously-variable transmission is done. The experimental validation has
only been conducted at low power, in comparison to the operational conditions of real-life CVTs.
The Material used for the CVT pulleys is Generally Aluminum. This paper proposes a rubber-belt
CVT dynamic model to predict the time response of the transmission ratio under given conditions of
drive pulleys axial force, drive pulley speed and load torque. The time responses of the predicted and
measured transmission ration for small up-shifts at low torque are very similar. They say that future
work could include more accurate measurement.
F. Xie, J. Wang, Y. Wang [3], A modeling and co-simulation method for light passenger car with
dual state CVT was introduced. The co-simulation platform was based on Simulink and AMESim.
The vehicle power-train dynamic model and hydraulic system model were constructed by AMESim,
and the controller models were built by MATLAB/Simulink. Through simulation analysis results, it
was validated that the co-simulation platform was effective and practicable for R&D of dual state
CVT.
Tsukasa Yuki, Mitsunao Takayama, Hisato Kato [4], They developed a continuously variable
transmission (CVT) which has superior transfer efficiency, by throughly reducing transfer loss by
means of using a dry hybrid belt, using no lubrication composition system around the belt, and using
an electric control system of a DC motor. The fuel efficiency and driveability of Improving

the prototype vehicle equipped with the CVT were proven equivalent or even superior to a 5 speed
manual transmission. They say that we could achieve our development target of the power
transmission efficiency in a power transmission and variable speed mechanism by constructing an a
CVT system which eliminates a hydraulic mechanism and consists of only components with a high
trans- mission efficiency.
Nur Cholisa, Sugeng Ariyonob, Gigih Priyandoko [5], V-belt CVT gives a better fuel economy
compared with that of classical gearbox transmission. The simulation results have significantly
improved the performance of the conventional PD controller, rotation of the CAM from lower gear
ratio to top gear ratio is less than 6.79 sec (CVT ratio from 0.9 up to 2.8), in terms of percent
overshoot and steady state error, both controllers perform well for the Single Acting Pulley Actuator
Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) system utilizes.
A.C. Fernandes [6], The proposed control strategy was validated by means of simulations that
employed the model of a moving vehicle coupled to a motor by a CVT system. The results showed
that the fuzzy controller attended the configured reference criteria, enabling greater motor efficiency
and improved economy of power consumption. The proposed control system functioned
satisfactorily, and showed considerable promise for use in practical applications.
K. K. Ang, C. Quek, A. Wahab [8], This Paper gives us idea about how to control the CVT gear
ratio, though they have used a different method for this purpose. We get an idea about the work to do
and what to do. They used pid controllers for this purpose. Things like overshoot, fluctuation control
has been discussed by them, and improvement in the controllers.
F. Xie, J. Wang, Y. Wang [7], a hybrid ratio controller was designed based on PID and fuzzy control
theory. The simulation under typical conditions showed that the closed-loop hybrid controller can
achieve a good tracking performance and had strong robustness, good dynamic response, high
