Electronic Waste: A Growing Concern in Today's Environment

https://doi.org/10.1155/2011/474230

I have read the abstract of this article, which talks about the concern of "electronic
waste," or "E-waste," in today's environment. This article addresses the increasing amount of E-
waste, such as electrical and electronic equipment. Also, the lifespan of this equipment is
becoming shorter and shorter as time goes by, so needless to say, the amount of e-waste will
increase. According to this article, "Most people are unaware of the potential negative impact
of the rapidly increasing use of computers, monitors, and televisions. When these products are
placed in landfills or incinerated, they pose health risks due to the hazardous materials they
contain. The improper disposal of electronic products leads to the possibility of damaging the
environment. As more e-waste is placed in landfills, exposure to environmental toxins is likely
to increase, resulting in elevated risks of cancer and developmental and neurological disorders.
" People need to take action on this by studying the importance and disadvantages of having
electronic and electrical devices so that our environment will become free from damage and
avoid risk to human health, especially since some hazardous compounds can be found in some
parts of gadgets or diseases.
As a future educator, I will do my best to share my knowledge regarding the importance of
electrical and electronic devices and equipment in our lives and how to use them properly as
well. I will be the one to facilitate and guide them and do my best to give them a quality
education. I will explain the flaws of ICT so that they can understand and avoid them. As a
student, I believe that gadgets are the most precious things in the world. Without these
electronic devices, my life would have become boring. The gadgets we (my family) bought are
just the cheap ones because we do not have enough money for the expensive ones and, being
cheap, our gadgets' lifespan is short, so we throw them, eventually, into the garbage can, and
we tend to buy cheap gadgets again for continuous living in modern society. After reading the
article, I feel guilty for what I have done in the past years and I realize I should buy gadgets that
have a long lifespan instead of buying gadgets with a short lifespan Even though the price is not
reachable, as long as it is good for the environment, I will do it.
I, therefore, conclude that e-waste is one of the greatest reasons why we feel the sudden
changes in the weather. We should therefore reduce the increasing amount of E-waste by
having equipment, gadgets, or devices that are long-lasting or making their lifespan long and
toxic-free.
