I played this interactive online

simulation game named Vishwakarma. The game is related to operations and I
played the game in tournament mode where I competed with various other
students playing in the same tournament. I played the role of a chief operating
officer in the game and applied all the major concepts of operations
management in decision making to achieve the objectives of the firm. As a chief
operating officer I had to take many critical decisions from demand forecasting
to cost effective delivery when I entered the tournament and started playing the
initial cash in hand was 430000, the marketplace has 5 regions each having their
own demand profile there are a total of 3 factory locations and 5 warehouse
locations to choose and there are three types of transportation available pickup,
truck and flight each differing in capacity, cost and time. I started from
workstation E as the black sign was there which shows workstation is already
set up. So, firstly I updated workstation E by giving A as pickup, B as pickup, C
as truck, D as truck and E as pickup and then I opened factory FC and in factory
FC I updated E as truck and reorder point as 200, reorder quantity as 200 and
order priority as 1. when the values were updated I setup the workstation D at
cost of 50000 and while it was completing its 15 days of duration I setup
workstation C as well. When workstation D completed after 15 days then I
updated workstation D by giving A as pickup, B as pick up, C as truck, D as
truck and E as pickup. Then I opened factory FC and there again I updated D by
giving it truck and reorder point and reorder quantity as 200 and giving order
priority as 2. While workstation C was in progress I set up workstation B. When
C gets completed after 15 days I updated it by giving A as pickup, B as pickup,
C as truck, D as truck and E as pickup. After updating workstation C I went to
factory FC and updated C as truck and reorder point and reorder quantity as 200
and order priority as 3. When the values get updated and meanwhile
workstation B was in progress I setup factory FB giving it capacity of 30 units.
when B gets completed I updated it by giving A as pickup, B as pickup, C as
truck, D as truck and E as pickup, then again I opened factory FC and updated B
as truck with reorder point and reorder quantity as 200 and order priority as 4.
While factory FB was in progress I setup workstation A. When workstation A
was completed after 15 days I updated it by giving A as pickup, B as pickup, C
as truck, D as truck and E as pickup. Again I went to factory FC and updated C
as truck and gave the order point and reorder quantity as 200 and order priority
as 5. When factory FB completed its 40 days, I setup factory FA giving it 30
units of capacity which took 40 days to complete. At the end my cash in hand
was approximately 15 lacs.

It was great learning experience playing this game. By playing this game I
learned about various aspects of operations management like demand forecast,
production schedule, capacity expansion, warehouse setup, stock outs, cost
effective delivery and many more.
