3: Productivity – Group 4

Productivity, in simple terms, is the efficiency of the production of goods or

services expressed by some measure. The report about productivity in construction
outlines the general productivity concepts and factors that affect productivity. They
define productivity as a measure of economic performance that compares the amount of
goods and services produced (output) with the amount of inputs used to produce those
goods and services. They also talk about the current productivity of the Philippines, and
its importance. They also discuss about the methods of improving productivity.

While looking at the historical data of the report, it is saddening that the labor
productivity in the country decreased because the minimum wage that the labor force
receive has become stagnant or does not equate with the demand for labor productivity.
In my opinion, these should be addressed by the next government administration that
wages must level with the rising prices of goods to satisfy the needs of the workers, this
may result in increased labor productivity. Agreeing with their statement, being
productive can help a construction firm increase and utilize the capacity of the human
resources it has. Also, productivity in the workplace will often translate into good
customer service and interaction, and improving relative productivity growth improves a
country’s competitive position.

They also stated the demotivators of productivity, such as the lack of

technological advancement, lack of communication, coordination issues, and inefficient
use of time. That should be acknowledged because productive work can be produced
by good planning and communication. By simply working with other workers who are
simply friendly and respectful. Workers can often be motivated through goal setting.

Overall, the motivation of workers can be enhanced through job enrichment or

increasing things that satisfy workers about a job and by lessening the things that
workers dislike. Having a satisfactory social relation helps. Individuals need a system or
method by which to measure their achievements and compare their standings against a
given target. Workers are often motivated because they see the progress and result of
their work.
