Week 13/ P 47: Unit 10: Where were you yesterday?


Lesson 2: 1, 2, 3

I. Aims: By the end of this lesson, Students will be able to ask and answer
questions about what someone did in the past.
II. Language focus: - Structure: A: What did you do yesterday?

- Vocabulary: played badminton, painted a picture,
watered the flowers.

Warm up * Warm up: - Call some pupils to the front of the T- whole
(5’) class to ask and answer questions about what class
someone in the past.
Presentation 1. Vocabulary: T- whole
(10’) + played class
+ painted
+ watered the flowers.
*Check voc: Slap the board
* Look, listen and repeat:
- Set the scene “you are going to listen to a story in
which the characters ask and answer questions about
what someone did in the past”.
- Play the recording and ask Ss to listen to the tape.
- T asks Ss to listen and repeat in chorus two times.
- Have whole class repeat all phrases a few times to
reinforce their pronunciation.
(10’) 2. Model sentence:
A: What did you do yesterday? Pairwork
B: I played badminton.
- T models, get Ss in chorus.
- T write MS on the board, check intonation,
meaning and get SS to copy.
* Practice: Point and say:
- Elicit the characters in the pictures and their names.
- Have Ss look at the bubbles to understand how to
ask and answer questions about things someone
likes. Ask Ss to look at the four pictures to practice
asking and answering about school subjects.
- Point to the first row of the table and model the task
T: What did you do yesterday?
Ss: I painted a pictures.
- Ask Ss to repeat chorally.
- Ask Ss to repeat individually.
- Ask Ss to practice in pairs. Ask them to point the
pictures and act out the dialogues. Using the pictures
in their books.
- Call on some pairs to perform their task at the front
of the class. The rest of the class observer and give
comments.

(10’) Pairwork
- Tell Ss that they are going to practise asking and
answering questions about where they did in the past
-Work in pairs, one pupil asking the questions and
the other giving the answers about what their
classmates are doing at the moment of speaking.
- Call on a few pairs to act out the dialogue in front
of the class.

correct pictures and sing the song.

1. Listen and number:
Presentation - Tell pupils that they are going to listen to the T- whole
(10’) recording and number the pictures. class
- Give Ss a few seconds to look at the picture and
identify who the characters are and what the characters
in each picture are doing.
- Play the recording 2 times pupils to listen and number
the pictures.
- Compare the answer with the partner.
- Play the recording again pupils check their answers. T
gives the answer:
- Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension
of the listening text.

2. Look and write:
(10’) - T explains the situation and how to do the exercise. Pairwork
- Ask students to read the dialogue in the book and
complete the sentence, using the picture cues.
- Ask ss to do the task independently.
- Ask ss to swap their answers
- Ask some pairs to act out the dialogues in front of the
class.

(10’) 3. Let’s sing: Groupwork
- Tell ss that they are going to sing the song.
- Ask ss to read each line of the lyrics aloud.
- Play the recording all the way through.
- Ask ss to do choral and individual repetition the song
line by line.
- Divide class into two groups to go to the front of the
class.One group sing the first four lines of a lyrics, the
other sings the last four lines. The rest of the class sings
together, clapping hands.
Consolidation - Have the class sing the song again and clap their Listen
Homework hands.

(5’) - Play the game: Puzzle class
1. Listen and repeat:
Presentation - Tell Ss that they are going to practise saying the sounds T- whole
(10’) of the letter /ed/ respectively. class
- Put the letter /ed/ on the board.
- Play the recording and ask Ss to repeat a few times.
- Put the words subject and subjects, the two sentences in
students’ book on the board.
- Play the recording again
- Play the tape again
- Get some Ss to say the sentences in front of the class.

(10’) 2. Listen and circle. Then write and say aloud: Individual
- Have pupils look at the sentences, listen to the
recording and circle.
- Give Ss a few seconds to read the sentences in silence
and guess the words to fill the gaps.
- Play the recording 2 times pupils to listen and circle the
boxes.
- Give Ss time to write the words in the gaps
independently.
- Ask Ss to swap their answers
- Ask Ss to read the sentence aloud.

1. Read and complete:
Presentation - T introduces the topic “you are going to read the text T- whole
(10’) and complete the sentence”. class
- Ask Ss to read the sentences individually and check
their prediction. Ss do the task.
- Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary
- Have Ss trade the answers in pairs for correction
- Call on some Ss to report their answers. Others listen
and comment.
- Make a few questions to check Ss’ comprehension of
the sentences.
- Have the whole class read each sentence in chorus to
reinforce their pronunciation.

- Tell pupils that they are going to write about what
they did in the past.
- Ask Ss to work in pairs or groups to discuss what they

- Ask some pupils to read their answers aloud to the
class. The rest of the class listen and give comments.
- Make a few questions to check pupils’ comprehension
of the reading text.
(10’) 3. Project: Groupwork
- Tell Ss that they are going to interview a friend about
where he/ she was and what he/ she did last weekend.
- Give each of them a small piece of paper and ask
them to copy the table in the pupil’s Book on the paper.
