LEARNING ACTIVITIES/EXERCISE w/ Rubrics

Instruction:
A. Compare and contrast the different countries in Asia, North and South America in terms of
population. Present your opinion regarding the economic status of the people living in Asia, North and
South America vis a vis the population of the country. You can select two countries in each continent,
get one with only a few populations and another one with many people living in a particular country for
each continent. Is it possible for a country with a small population, will have rich or financially-stable
citizens? Write all our observations well.

In the continent of Asia, the country with the highest population is India with an average
population of 1,380,004,385 while the country that has the smallest population is Brunei with an
average population of 437,489 only. But as you can see Brunei is a wealthy country compared to India.
The reason why is that it is almost entirely supported by exports of crude oil and natural gas, with
revenues from the petroleum sector accounting for over half of GDP government provides for all
medical services and subsidizes food and housing. And since Brunei has only small population, the
government can sustain their needs while having high income because of their oil. While India, even
though they are called a middle-income developing market economy, it will be hard for their
government to sustain their needs everyday due to their population but they are also emerged as the
fastest growing major economy in the world and is expected to be one of the top three economic
powers in the world over the next 10-15 years, backed by its robust democracy and strong partnerships.
In the continent of North America, the country with the highest population is USA with a total
population of 327,093,859 while the country that has the smallest population is Saint Kitts and Nevis
with a total population of 52,441 only. The country of USA produces a lot of advance technology giving
them the upper hand in controlling their economy despite having a large population. They have lots of
job opportunities making their economy grow all the time compared to Saint Kitts and Nevis who has
traditionally depended on the growing and processing of sugar cane; decreasing world prices have hurt
the industry in recent years. Tourism, export-oriented manufacturing, and offshore banking activity have
assumed larger roles in Saint Kitts and Nevis. Most food is imported. Even though they have only few
populations if there will be no job opportunities it will affect their economic growth unlike USA. In the
continent of South America, the country of Brazil has the highest population with an average of
212,559,417 while Bolivia has the lowest population with an average of 11,673,021 only. Although Brazil
has the highest population, their economic status is great because their country is rich with natural
resources. While Bolivia even having the smallest population in South America, they belong to lower -
middle-income country. The Bolivian economy has had a historic pattern of a single-commodity focus.
From silver to tin to coca, Bolivia has enjoyed only occasional periods of economic
diversification. Political instability and difficult topography have constrained efforts to modernize the
agricultural sector.

In conclusion, it is really possible for a country with small population to have rich or financially-
stable citizens. It depends on how they are going to manage their resources and depends on the
geography of a country.
B. Write all the capitals of the countries mentioned in your module. Follow the correct
numbering of the particular country.
