INTRODUCTION

This article is a study of students' difficulties in writing English. Language is an important tool
in communication in society which serves as a tool to communicate with other people in the
environment. One of the basic language skills in the language learning process is writing.
success in writing English brings benefits not only in learning English but also in a lifelong
career. Being able to write in English is very important in college, and will be an asset in your
career.

For some EFL learners, English writing seems challenge. Coherent, cohesive, and fluent
writing is perhaps the most difficult thing in language. In this paper, article summaries and
suggestions for the issues raised are presented appropriately. This paper aims to investigate
whether students can improve their writing ability and grow from difficulty writing by doing
journal writing activities.

METHODOLOGY

The research method carried out in this journal is qualitative and quantitative research because
the data in it is related to descriptive data and numbers.

Research sample : SMA Al-Munawwariyyah Malang students from class XI IPA 1 (30 students)
and XI IPA 2 (30 students).

This research was conducted at SMA Al-Munawwariyyah Malang

RESULT

The result of what we have researched is The investigation of the use of journal writing as an
extensive activity to trigger learners' writing motivation and enhance their writing skill as well as
to establish a close relationship between teachers and learners have many benefits. Based on the
result of the data analyzed in this research, it can be concluded that the implementation of journal
diary in the teaching and learning process of writing is believed to be an effective way to
improve the students’ writing skills.
