The Maldives, often known as the Republic of Maldives, is an independent island country
in the north-central Indian Ocean. In the Maldives, tourism is the primary source of
economic growth, tax revenue, and foreign exchange profits. The Maldives' economy is
expected to grow at 7.6% in 2022 and fully recover to pre-pandemic levels by 2023, thanks
to a robust resurgence in tourism, but the country's high debt levels are a big concern,
according to the World Bank.

Visualizations:
1. Total Debt Service and GNI Forecasting

Interpretation:
In this visualization, total debt and GNI are forecasted for next 5 years. There is very huge
difference between total debt service and GNI of the Maldives, which is increasing
continuously. In forecast we can infer that GNI will not be able to recover debt and debt
will keep increasing exponentially.
2. Long and Short Term Debt as Total % of Reserve:

5
Interpretation:
Here, I have compared long and short term debt as total % of Reserve cash of country.
Companies long as well as short term debt in increasing over the period. Country is facing
insolvency as well as liquidity problems.
3. Relationship between Short and Long Term Debt:

Interpretation:
Country long and short term external debt stocks has some correlation with each other.
As country’s short term debt increases it also creates long term liabilities for the country.

4. Historic Total Debt Service and Total Reserve:

6
Interpretation:
Total debt is growing faster than total reserves. It is very difficult to cover debt using
country’ reserve in coming years. Debt is growing exponentially. It is showing that country
is at the verge of bankruptcy, if it will be able to repay its debt.
