The reason public transport is important is because it lets people that might not be able to afford a car be able to imp
travel far for cheap. Unlike bicycles they don’t need any work and effort and they are a great asset for the public. pav
It also carries hundreds of people at a time which boosts the economy. Whether Trains, Buses or Trams public is a

Task 1

Advances in Transport

312 BC Romans build the Appian Way, Italy. This is the first ever paved road. It improved connectivity by the
ability to travel anywhere at any time.

1814 George Stevenson builds the first practical steam train. Allowed the transportation and connectivity of the
world by creating train tracks that go throughout the world.

1883 Karl Benz invents the first powered car by an internal combustion engine. This gives the inspiration for
modern day cars.

1903 Orville and Wilber Wright fly the first modern motor driven airplane. Gives inspiration and technological
advancements for modern planes, this allowed much larger planes to transport hundreds of people to different
continents.

1911 Model T Ford; first mass produced car. Car manufacturing begins which means that the middle class could
be able to afford cars and that it becomes more accessible to the general public instead of the Upper Class.

1994 Opening of the Channel Tunnel connecting England and France under the English Channel. Connects
England and France in a new way, instead of taking a Boat or Plane to France you can now take a train or even
drive.

2004 First Maglev train opens between Shanghai and Shanghai airport, potential speed could be over 800 km/h.
Adds a new transportation method and it also allows high speed travel for large groups of people making it more
efficient.

b. On a Sunday morning from at 9 am, you first have to walk 367 meters for 6 minute at 9:09 AM. After that
you hop on into the bus then take route 123 for about 24 minutes. On the final trip to Peace Lutheran you
have to walk 1656 meters for 25 minutes. You arrive at 10:04 AM. Total Time: 55 minutes.

c. On a Thursday Evening from at 6 pm, you first have to walk 367 meters for 6 minute at 6:29 PM. After that
you hop on into the bus then take route 123 for about 39 minutes. On the final trip to Peace Lutheran you
have to walk 495 meters for 8 minutes. You arrive at 7:22 PM. Total Time: 53 minutes.

Overall I was satisfied with my trip every single trip was with 400 meters, you wait for about 30 minutes
and you only required a one way ticket. Major landmarks were City to JCU via Raintrees and Brinsmead.

Task 4

If I were to redesign Public Transportation System by adding an underground Metro System that stations in a
major part of the city. Places like Smithfield, Palm Cove, Trinity Beach, CBD, Redlynch and Mount Sheridan. The
train will accommodate a maximum of 200 passengers and will travel at fast speeds from around 300 km/h. They
will be accessible in the most populated parts of each suburb.

Task 5

1. Some of the world most liveable cities that use public transport trips is Vienna which has the highest trips
per person, this could be due to the fact that they use multiple forms of transport such as Subway, Local
Train, Tram and Bus. Also, the tickets are extremely cheap. The lowest trips per person goes to Perth,
according to ABC News “The problem is made worse as many Western Australians choose to drive because
it is simply more convenient.” It also said that Perth’s use of transport has dropped by 5 million in 2017. A
Perth professor also stated that "To take public transport would be around an hour and 15 [minutes], to
drive is about 20 minutes."

2a. Copenhagen is far smaller compared to Melbourne, which could mean that their public transportation doesn’t
have to travel that far or for so long. Copenhagen’s rail network size is around of 15.5 Kilometres while Melbourne
is about 372 kilometres.

2b. It is far easier to travel in Copenhagen’s railway due to the fact that it’s smaller and that it has a smaller
railway meaning that you can travel close by, quick and easy.
3.Out of all of the cities Melbourne is the biggest with the most railways, Copenhagen’s railway is mostly straight
forward while Melbourne’s branches out from a certain point. Perth railway also branches out as well but not as
large as Melbourne’s. Melbourne, Perth and Copenhagen are all radial with Melbourne being the biggest example.
Melbourne, Perth and Copenhagen all have a few clusters and they all seem interconnected. There were no black
lines that I personally could observe but there could possible be some.

4a. Some of the reasons there could be more kilometres of roads in some cities in Australia than other countries in
Europe could be the fact that Australia population is an Urban environment. Unlike most European countries
Australia has a lot of people living in cities. It also could be due to the fact that these such cities are extremely
busy.

4b. In cairns there is a new project in our community where they are creating more bike paths and walk paths
places like the esplanade walkway will be remodelled and be adopted in other parts of cairns. Environmental
impacts when building could be destruction of forests and bushland. The two teams may be planners who want
cairns to have a good future while eco warriors are concerned for the planet.
