Glide Revitalization was disappointed to be the target of an emailed press release issued by the
Glide School District. Unfortunately, the misrepresentations communicated to the public
warrant a response to clarify.

Glide Revitalization is an organization created to help the community of Glide. Our community
has needed additional licensed and affordable childcare options for a long time. For many
families recovering from the Archie Creek Fires, affordable childcare is a major hurdle to those
trying to get back to work and put their lives back together. We have resources to help!

Glide Revitalization has partnered with United Community Action Network (UCAN) to help bring
free preschool to Glide. In conjunction, Glide Revitalization will provide affordable daycare run
by licensed professionals. We were hoping the district would partner with us, but that does not
appear to be the case.

Through their recent actions, we feel the district may be confused about their role in our
organization. The Glide School District has no authority over the operations of our organization.
We are not run by the Glide School District. The Glide School District is our landlord. We have
a legal lease with the district until October of 2025. Until that date, in accordance with our
lease, we have the right to run our organization and its programs in that building, including
childcare. Glide School District has no right to dictate what programs we can and cannot offer
our community.

As dictated in our lease, Glide Revitalization is required to make improvements to the Old
Middle School in lieu of rent. We have honored that lease agreement in the amount of
$80,566.50: more than $20k over the agreed upon amount of $60,000.00. Glide Revitalization
operates within the law and according to county, state, and federal regulations. Proper
permitting and licensure have been obtained. Certified and licensed contractors have been
used, and as of now, we have passed all inspections regarding our upgrades to the building.
The daycare and preschool facility we plan to open will be licensed and certified. This a very
long and detailed process, and Glide Revitalization feels that the authorities over this process
will have more expertise in the subject matter than the school board or interim superintendent.

We understand there is a lot of controversy over how Glide Revitalization can make the Old
Middle School Building safe for preschool children when the narrative presented by the school
district for the closure of that middle school was that it could never be done. Glide
Revitalization cannot answer your questions in this matter. Those questions need to be asked
of your school district. But Glide Revitalization should not be disparaged for finding a way.

Glide Revitalization would like to emphatically announce that funding for survivors of the Archie
Creek Fire is still available and not ending as the interim superintendent implied. We are
perplexed as to how Patrick Mayer came to this conclusion and sincerely hope this release of
misinformation will not deter survivors from seeking assistance from Glide Revitalization. Even
when the FEMA money is no longer available, which it still is, Glide Revitalization will continue
to look for funding to help those who need it. If you are a survivor, please do not hesitate to
contact us for help.

The implications and misinterpretations the district released by the interim superintendent is
unfathomable to Glide Revitalization. While the district did conduct testing of the building, we
would like to point out that they did so by trespassing into our work zone during renovations
without our consent or presence. Many of the samples presented as “unacceptable” were
taken from areas of the building Glide Revitalization does not use (the district still occupies the
back half of the building) or exterior areas that are the school district’s responsibility. All of
these test results were released grouped together in one ‘condemning’ report with no way to
interpret it unless you were certified in that area. They insisted we have a certified contractor
come and inspect and report what our certified contractor is doing. This requirement by the
district exceeds EPA standards. We’ve reached out to multiple agencies: all of which suggest
this type of inspection is unheard of and unusual.

We understand that the interim superintendent and the school board may not have all of the
proper information they need in these matters since all our attempts of communication,
conversation, and mediation have been denied by the school district since March of 2022. We
have reached out multiple times hoping to reconnect and get this conversation going to move
forward in tandem with the school district for the betterment of our community. While we are
not optimistic, we are still hopeful for the course.

In the meantime, through our attorney, we have requested that the school district stop all
harassment, trespass, and illegal video surveillance of the interior of our building. Within any
lease, a landlord is not allowed to enter a premises without first notifying their tenant. This is
very common verbiage. A landlord is also not allowed interior surveillance, especially
surveillance monitored on a personal phone of district personnel. We would hope that as a
lessee of a commercial building, the school district would afford us the same rights as any
tenant deserves from a landlord.

To conclude, Glide Revitalization is and has always been concerned with the well-being of our
Glide Residents: from infants to the elderly. We would never knowingly put them in harms
way. We can assure you that when we open our daycare and preschool, it is with the most care
and consideration we can give to the safety of our facility and the children that will occupy it.
Thank you.
