     Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) happens when a blood clot (thrombus) forms in one or mor
    e of the body's deep veins, most commonly in the legs. Leg pain or swelling can be cause
    d by deep vein thrombosis. Sometimes there are no obvious signs. DVT can occur if you 
    have certain medical issues that alter the way your blood clots.
