Thesis Proposal

Lalkungthanuama Nampui BDIII

Roll No: 08

1. Title: Significance of Salvation in the Gospel of John for the Biate community of
Fiangpui Pastorate, Dima Hasao district.
2. Statement of the problem: The main problem is that there is an understanding
among some Biate Christian that salvation can be achieve only through good work
not through faith alone.
3. Elaborataion of the problem: There is a belief that salvation can be achieve through
good works among the people of Biate community in Fiangpui Pastorate, Dima hasao
District, but biblically from the Gospel of John we can find that salvation is only
possible through faith and trust in Jesus as the saviour of the world. Many people
misunderstood that salvation is based on the idea that being “good enough” can grant
a person access to God in heaven. However, a person does not enter heaven based on
how well he or she performs or excels in these areas. Instead, salvation is provided as
a free gift. God already saves us before we know Him the only thing we need is to
believe that He loves us and He grants Grace to those who believe in His son Jesus
Christ freely.
4. Purpose of the Study: The purpose of the study is to clarify the Biblical concept of
salvation to the Biate Christian concept of salvation.
5. Previous Research: As far as my knowledge few research have been done in
relation to the topic of salvation. Liana Biate wrote on the topic of Thurchi Tha
which literally means “the gospel.” Also, Remsiama Ngamlai in his book, “Biate
Rammual” (The Biate World) he mentioned about how the Biate people accept the
gospel of christ and converts into Christianity. But as far as my knowledge no one
has done any research on the topic with special reference to the concept of salvation
of the Biate community.
6. Method of research: This Thesis will be done following quantitative empirical
method for data collection. Sampling method will be used where the researcher will
choose certain persons who are knowledgeable of the topic. Also, exegetical study of
the text will be done.
Data will be collected using questionnaire and interviews in a specific required
area. This thesis Library resources will be used for doing the research, some of the
library which are to be access is Biateram Synod book room and, Serampore college
faculty of theology library.
7. Scope and limitation: The research will deal with the doctrine of salvation
particularly from the gospel of St. John. The researcher will concentrate mainly in
Fiangpui Pastorate (3 Churches) Biateram Synod PCI.
