IGEM CAMP ESSAYS

1. Что интересует вас в науке? (200 слов макс.)

It would seem, but how the starry sky can lead you to some discoveries? It was my
first thought that came to me one sleepless night in my granny’s village. I went out
into the yard and took my telescope. Not having noticed the time counting looking
at space objects, I entered the house only at 7 in the morning. My granny wondered
what I was doing all night. I told her about observing satellites, stars, and that I
even captured Mars! Since those good times have passed 6 years.
6 years of studying astrophysics has led me to the fact that my mindset has
expanded its boundaries. Research projects, the creation of a school space club - all
of this made me who I am now. The chief thing I discovered about myself is that I
am young, avid astrophysics researcher!

2. Why do you want to participate in Summer Camp? (150 words max.) *

In the future, I want to engage in scientific activities, and this camp will help me
achieve my goal. I look forward to the next lectures and seminars. Summer Camp
will teach me critical thinking, an introduction to science literacy, and how to
find a job in science.
3. What attracts you the most from what our camp offers (invited speakers, iGEM
team, etc.) and why? (150 words max.) *
I want to study with leading experts in science, education and technology. Vivid
examples of this are Anton Morgunov, a well-known winner of the Olympiads in
our country; Aizhan Kul-Muhammed, International Education Specialist, whose
career I have followed for several years. I mentioned them as a priority because I
would like to work with them. And, of course, my true inspiration is the IGEM
team! Thanks to your previous events (seminars, webinars), I realized how many
opportunities there are in a scientific career.

4. What do you expect from this event? (150 words max.) *

First, I expect to get a scientific literacy. It is highly important, because a science-

literate population can better cope with many of their problems and make
intelligent and informed decisions that will affect the quality of life of people.
Second, I want to get a skill in critical thinking. Critical thinking is the key to
scientific progress. Every outstanding scientist always asks why and how things
are happening.
And third, since I want to continue my scientific career, it is important for me to
gain knowledge in career counseling. There are so many options that it is difficult
to choose which one you really want.

5. Why should we choose you for Summer Camp? (200 words max.) *

I am your best choice because I have clear and ambitious goals for my future
scientific activity. My academic performance is very high: GPA 5.0/5.0. It
suggests that I am ready to devote 100% of my attention to the Summer Camp to
get new skills and exceptional experience. My extracurricular activities show my
genuine passion for science and education. I am a UNICEF volunteer in the
«Generation without Borders» program, an English teacher for underprivileged
children (for free), and the founder of the School Space Club at my school.
