BAB II
It’s All about Myself

Why Self-Introduction?

Self-introduction is a way that we do to convey personal information including

name, address, hobby, date of birth, nationality, and other personal details so that

others can know who we are. Introducing ourselves to others can be tricky because

what we say depends entirely on the circumstances in which we introduce ourselves. Is

it in an official or unofficial situation so that the language we use to introduce ourselves

will be very different from one another. The ability to do self-introduction is needed

when we want to introduce ourselves in any social situation such as; to meet some new

people, to have a presentation in front of a group, to introduce ourselves in a party or

in a celebration, an interview, or to deliver speech.

What to do in Self-Introduction?

There 3 simple steps to introduce yourself:

1. Greetings

2. Introduction

Example of Self-Introduction

Example 1:

Hello everyone. I am Hasan. I am from Jakarta. Now let me talk about my interest. First

of all, I like listening to classical music. I have about 100 music CD’s at home, and I

listen to music almost every evening. I grew up in the capital city of Indonesia, that is

Jakarta. My city is full of busy people. I like to make friends, because I am a very

friendly person, so I am very easy to talk to people. I hope to make many friends at

this campus. Thank you.

Example 2:

In this example, Peter and Jane are meeting for the first time at a social event. After

greeting each other, they begin by asking simple personal questions. Working with a

friend or classmate, take turns practicing this role-play.

Peter : Hello.

Jane : Hi!

Peter : My name is Peter. What's your name?

Jane : My name is Jane. Nice to meet you.
