a clean bill of health – an expression that means information that there is nothing wrong with you
absolve – prove you did not do something wrong
accentuated – made more obvious
additive – something that is added
addressed – talked to using someone’s name
adrenalin – a chemical that the body creates when you feel strong emotions
affirmed – said something is true
ain’t – isn’t (informal)
alternating – taking turns to do something
ambled – walked slowly
amigos – friends (in Spanish)
amiss – wrong
antibiotic – medicine that can fight an infection
anxiously – in a worried way
apparently – seemingly; I have heard
appeared – arrived
arrogant – proud and superior
asserted – agreed; said
assist – help
Aye – yes (dialect)
bafflement – confusion
bashing – hitting
belied – were shown to be untrue
benefit – for the good of
betting syndicates – groups of people and companies who place bets on horse races for money
blame – fault; doing something wrong
bound – (here) certain; sure
breezy – easy
bringing up the rear – an expression that means the last person in a race
brisk – quick
capable – with the skills
casualty – accident and emergency department at a hospital
cattle – cow
cautioned – warned
chestnut – rich brown with a hint of red
claim – say something is true
cockney – the accent and culture of people from East London
coincidence – two similar things that happen but are not linked
comfort – make someone feel better
commotion – noise made when there is a problem
